The Chaparral Trio - Without You / Roxanne

Pretty crazy 45 here. Side A "With Out You" is a straight pop song. It sounds more like 64/65 than the heavy 1969 psych rocker that the B side "Roxanne" is. Doesn't even sound like the same band... Wish the B side went another 3 seconds of riffing guitar fuzz... B side RULES! ==== The Chaparral Trio - Without You ==== The Chaparral Trio - Roxanne

Cliff Martin And His Cliff Dwellers - Back Street Affair

Some more early country music w/ Cliff Martin And His Cliff Dwellers doing Back Street Affair on the Crest record label. Scant info on this, so again, i have no idea what year but has to be the 50's? Any help DrunkenHobo? This one kind of slinks along with some creepy fiddle and steel guitar and a kooky vocal delivery from Mr. Martin which creates a pretty somber tone. Nice.

edit: Bob The Scared Data Miner said 1953. Thanks Bob!

The Vice-Roys - Buzz-Bomb

Another 50 cent flea market find. Today we have the Vice-Roys w/ Buzz-Bomb. A nice little surfy garage number from 1963 w/ cool sax, some mean guitar licks & killer keyboard fills.

Yeah, it's seen better days but hey, for 50 cents i aint complaining.... and since it is free to you, you shouldn't either...

As for the Vice-Roys.....??? Looks like they were a Seattle Washington band.... Other than that your guess is as good as mine.

Edit: Oops, per the comments of BobbyM these guys were not from the PNW but a Chicago area band. And they had a very minor hit in '63 with "Seagrams". They followed that one up with "Buzz-Bomb"....

Thanks BobbyM!

The Cordials - My Hearts Desire - Listen To My Heart

Me and a buddy of mine has been looking for this record for years. Its a pretty rare one, and my friends uncle was in the group making it even that much more desirable. I've only seen the original once and it was 300 bucks. Too rich for my blood, so when i saw this reissue for a few dollars i jumped at it. I was thinking of giving it to my friend but i don't think he quite desereves it just yet... but i'll give to you all for free now. maybe one day i'll slip the wax into his hands but until then i'm keeping the physhical item in my possesion for a while... i bet he doesn't even notice i put this up here.... :)

Frankie Baldo & The Noveltones - Strange Guitar

Hand Claps, Drums & um, "Strange Guitar"... Not really all that strange, just a bit o' reverb & tremolo but it adds a nice flavor to this groovy little surf type instrumental from the 60's.

No need for any words on Mr Blue Suede Shoes...? This is little rockabilly number from later in his career, pretty sure sometime in the 60's. Still a cool little rocker.

Drivin Dynamics - So Fine - Sully 917

Driving Dynamics: Featuring early Randy Meisner of The Eagles

Nebraska garage rock combo the Drivin' Dynamics formed in the state's Gering-Scottbluff area in late 1961. Singer/bassist Randy Meisner, guitarists Larry Soto and Richard Rohnke, and drummer John Ankeny made their debut at a private party and within weeks landed a gig in support of Bobby Vee. Throughout 1962 the Drivin' Dynamics appeared regularly at the Henry, NE, dancehall Little Moon Lake. With little competition, they quickly emerged as the region's most popular rock & roll outfit. Rohnke left the lineup in late 1962 to enter the military, prompting the addition of saxophonist Paul Asmus. Soon after, the Drivin' Dynamics self-released their debut four-song EP, featuring the instrumental original "Sidewinder." After a New Year's Eve gig, Ankeny also announced plans to enlist, and upon adding Soto's younger brother Bobby, the group began touring beyond the western Nebraska circuit, promoting their appearances via Oklahoma City's 50,000-watt radio station KOMA. In the wake of Beatlemania, the Drivin' Dynamics updated their repertoire, adding British Invasion covers alongside their traditional R&B staples. They also expanded their roster, recruiting lead guitarist Dave Margheim and pianist Steve Cassells. In mid-1965 the group signed to Ray Ruff's Sully label to cut their second single, "So Fine." The record fared well regionally, and by year's end the Drivin' Dynamics were regularly playing locales as distant as Rapid City, SD, often outdrawing national acts in the process. In February 1966 the Drivin' Dynamics traveled to Denver to compete in a battle of the bands contest, coming in second to local favorites the Soul Survivors. Soon after, Meisner accepted the Soul Survivors' offer to join their ranks and relocated with them to California, where the act renamed itself the Poor. Meisner later resurfaced in the country-rock combo Poco before ascending to multi-platinum success as a member of the Eagles. In the meanwhile, the Drivin' Dynamics returned to Nebraska before going on temporary hiatus. The Soto brothers reunited the band in mid-1967, and while close to three dozen new members rotated through the lineup in the decades to follow, upon their 2000 induction into the Nebraska Music Hall of Fame the group was honored as the longest-running rock act in state history. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

Steve Rowland and the Ring Leaders - Out Ridin' - Here, Kum The Karts

I've been sick as a dog over here @ the devils music and not feeling much like doing anything so i'll cut to the chase... Here is a quick one and something i just recently picked up. 2 cool instrumentals with some nice organ work. Killer sax (check that break out on Out Ridin') and some subtle but great guitar work. Mix that all with some motorcycle & car sounds and you get a great intro 2 sider from Mr. Rowland and the Ring Leaders.... i am not sure why you need more than one ring leader but....

Steve Rowland (born Stephen Rowland, 3 September 1932, U.S.[1]) is singer, columnist, record producer and actor. He grew up in Beverly Hills. His father is film director Roy Rowland, his mother Ruth was a writer, whilst Louis B. Mayer was her uncle.

In 1950s, Hollywood, he went on to act in thirty five TV shows like Bonanza, Wanted: Dead or Alive and a two year role in The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp. Film appearances included co-starring roles in Battle of the Bulge with Henry Fonda; Gun Glory with Stewart Granger; Crime in the Streets with John Cassavetes and Sal Mineo, and the original The Thin Red Line with Kier Dullea and Jack Warden.
During the making of five films in Spain, Rowland enjoyed Spanish chart success with the group, Los Flaps. The lure of the exciting British music scene of the Swinging Sixties brought him to London, where he produced thirteen Top Ten hits for Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich. Among those worldwide hits were "Hold Tight", "Zabadak", "Bend It" and "The Legend of Xanadu" (a million selling UK Number One).
He also discovered Peter Frampton and The Herd, and with "Way Of Life" had a #6 UK Singles Chart hit with his own group, The Family Dogg. He produced hits for P.J. Proby and The Pretty Things. In 1970 he produced the album "Coming From Reality" for Detroit Folk-Rock star Rodriguez. In the 1970s he was awarded a gold album and ASCAP award for producing Jerry Lee Lewis (the London Sessions). In the late 1970s, he was creative manager/A&R for Hansa/Ariola, where he discovered and signed The Cure and The Thompson Twins, and handled Boney M and Japan.

The Hawks - The Grissle - Grasshopper

So i got up and ready to go to work today and it was a real hassle. And i was thinking with all the shit i have going on in my life right now and dealing with this house mess (see car crash pics below) and worrying about getting all of my things out of a condemed house and dealing with trying to re-locate and temporarily living out of a Hotel and all, i was thinking i don't have time to keep doing this stupid little blog. But i got to work and i had a few new nice comments saying thanks for the tunes and that some people come here everyday and all and a few more people started "following" the blog so instead of putting the "Closed" sign up like i was thinking about doing i decided to just keep on keeping on... So i will not put the closed sign up and i will try to keep posting. Don't think it will be as regualr as in the past but i will try. Till the next time enjoy some Las Vegas Grind Type music from 1960 w/ The Hawks!!!

The Legends - Bop-A-Lena - I Wish I Knew

I bought this record on one fact and one fact alone. For the cover version of Ronnie Self's Bop-A-Lena. Another record i have already talked about HERE: on the Devil's Music. Not knowing anything about this group i had to check out the cover of one of my all time amped up 50's songs. And while this doesn't even come close to the original it is a pretty cool Buddy Holly type version. And the flip is a cool piece of Buddy Holly worship too. I've read that this is from either 62' or 63'.

Here is what i dug up on this cool band:

As any aging greaser can tell you, In the pre-Beatles '60's, rock 'n' roll in Milwaukee was spelled "L-E-G-E-N-D-S". The Legends, with front man McCue, were the first band to truly rock Beertown. Their singles "Say Mama", "Bop-A-Lena" and "Lariat" went to the top of the charts in Milwaukee. They were the first local rock band to nail a national record contract, getting signed by Capitol. Every weekend they held court over the spacious dance floor at Muskego Beach. And they helped inspire a generation of local musicians to make music their living. By any reasonable standard, Sam McCue is the godfather of Milwaukee rock. The son of a "semi-pro" trumpet-playing dad and a singing, fiddling mom, McCue started out with ukulele at age 6 and graduated to guitar.
In 1964, McCue left to take an opportunity as lead guitarist and band leader for the Everly Brothers. The Everlys turned out to be a memorable experience. McCue traveled all over the world, worked on a national musical variety TV series, and met and played with such rock royalty as Carl Perkins, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, Frankie Avalon and Bobby Vinton.

Sir Henry And His Butlers - High Heel Sneakers - Let's Go

Re-posting this one since divshare screwed up my files per below. So here is is with corrected files!!! Enjoy!

Sir Henry and his Butlers was a Danish rock/popgroup which was formed during the summer of 1964 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The group is mostly known for its two front figures Ole "Sir Henry" Bredahl and especially Tommy Seebach and also the song Let's Go. Characteristic for the group has been Ole Bredahl as organiser, whereas the rest of the ensemble of Sir Henry and his Butlers have been changed many times since the creation of the group.
The band is a continuation of another band called Five Danes which was desolved in the spring of 1964. In the beginning, this new band consisted of Ole "Sir Henry" Bredahl (vocals, bass), Carsten Elgstrøm (guitar) together with Leif Davidsen (drums). As a trio they participated in a The Danish Beatles competition in Holte Hallen in April of 1964. Shortly thereafter the band was expanded with Poul Petersen (guitar) and Leif Davidsen was replaced with Jens Bøgvad, former the Flintones. The group became popular around the Copenhagen music venues, in particular at Bakkens Place Pigalle where they played as house orchestra. This was a result of their single debut Hi-Heel Sneakers/Sick and Tired from 1964. During the autumn of the same year the band got there breakthrough with the release of their second single Let's Go. The single became a hit, not only in Denmark, but also in Sweden and Norway and the sale of the single exceeded 50,000 copies.

Lance - Working Overtime

Most of us know that sound of the clock ticking away... Be it at school or work sometimes the damn thing moves so slow... Not in this case. I'm not sure who exactly "Lance" is (Mike Guidici?) but he is working overtime for the love of his babe and he pretty excited about it by the tempo and groove of this tune. I know nothing about this guy but the label and song title was enough for me to take a chance and only at a few bucks this is a little nice score. A real nice red hot rocker that really moves and has a great guitar break. Who knew that Iowa rocked this hard? As this Sonic Record label is out of Milford Iowa & The Iowa Great lakes Recording Company. It is the only time I have ever seen this label but it look like they put out a bunch of stuff. Check the discog. HERE: IGL Records. I'd ask you all to drop any knowledge you could on this record and the record label for that matter but i know that is a futile request... To any one else paying attention dig this uptempo rocker will ya? My guess is 67 on the year but that could swing a few years in either direction...

Hearts and Flowers - Ode To A Tin Angel - Extra Extra/Rock & Roll Gypsies/Extra Extra

Wow, what can i say. Still sorta bumming about Mr. Ronnie James Dio passing away...
But life goes on and so does the music... But a voice like his is just about impossible to replace. anyway, were going to keep things going over here at the devil's music w/ a couple of great late 60's pop psych tunes from Hearts & Flowers and their 1968 album Of Horses ~ Kids ~ And Forgotten Women on Capitol records.

I'm sending these 2 out to my man Larry over at Iron Leg because this shit is right up his alley. 2 really groovy psychedelic tunes from 1968 that kinda alternate between Beatles/early Bee Gees/early Bowie and a slew of others of the era... I really dig the turn around switch up in R & R Gypsies but both songs are gems IMHO...

Hearts & Flowers were a Los Angeles folk-rock club band, perhaps most significant as one of the groups that launched the career of Eagles' founding member and guitarist-songwriter, Bernie Leadon. The lineup included Larry Murray (vocals, guitar), Dave Dawson (vocals, guitar, autoharp) and Rick Cunha (vocals, guitar). Leadon replaced Cunha on their second album in 1968. Among venues they played during the mid-1960s, were Los Angeles clubs Ledbetter's, Doug Weston's Troubadour, and the Ashgrove. After recording two albums without major success, the group disbanded in 1968.

Read a really great write up about the band HERE: for a very full story on and about the band.
