Meet Allison Ott of Arizona Mommies in Arizona

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Ott.

Allison, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
For many years, I’ve been a social media junky and used the internet as my creative outlet! I always enjoyed creating content for others and sharing my life through pictures + videos. I became a first time mom back in November 2014. In 2016, I was working full time in the retail management industry and worked a lot of nights, weekends, overnight floor sets and holidays. The only mom friends I had at the time were the customers that came into my store with their littlest, but no one I’d do meetups + play dates with, no one I went to go grab coffee or brunch with and I really craved having that mommy & me friendship- and then it dawned on me- I need friends and my daughter needed friends. One night after work, I logged onto Facebook to join as many mom groups as I could. I couldn’t believe how many there were, but as I began my search one thing I did notice was that there wasn’t a lot of local mom community’s in Arizona. That’s when I got inspired to start my own AZ Mommy community. Shortly after creating the Arizona Mommies community, I left my full-time job to become a stay at home mom. That was June 2016- three years later- October 2019 Arizona Mommies has grown to 30,000+ members, I’m now married to my husband Tim and has two children- Rylee + Brody! We have Arizona Mommies swag, we have partnered with a ton of local business + have sponsors, we have launched our Discount Program + Perks Club and have built + grown so much in three years!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like all things in life, there will be ups + downs, but my biggest struggle was finding a team that wanted to build + grow with us and to volunteer their time daily to this community. As of 2019, I have finally established a team that kicks booty every day + genuinely cares so much about this community and our members. We all have created a bond outside the team- it truly is a sisterhood!

Please tell us about your organization.
Arizona Mommies is an online social community + support group on Facebook with over 30,000+ community members currently. We were originally founded on June 17th, 2016. Our community is a place to get local mothers connected + build friendships with other local moms around the valley. Our community is a place to discuss the real and the raw, the good, the bad and the ugly and all of the hardships that comes with mamahood. Offer our support, advice, encouraging words and sharing your challenges and success stories.

Mom groups, in general, get such a bad rep. What sets Arizona Mommies apart from other mom groups + communities is that we have a leadership team that truly and genuinely cares about each and every single member! We all volunteer our time daily for our community members to make sure that it’s a positive + peaceful environment and that everyone is spreading kindness. We also do mama meetups, events and make appearances at local markets. We also have some awesome swag for our community members to rep! We also just launched our Discount Program + Perks Club where members have access to a ton of discounts from local businesses. So many perks being in our community!!!

I’m most proud of how far we’ve come as a community + watching it build + grow over the years! Going from only have a couple of your mom friends to 30,000+ members in three years is so wild + insane to me!!!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being the real + raw you- as we all know social media is used as a creative outlet for so many people. It’s super important to remain yourself and not get so caught up on what others are doing + comparing yourself to others! Just be you!

Connecting- being able to connect + be relatable to other moms! Being driven- having the drive + determination and being passionate about what you do is so important.

Courage. I read in a book called “Fear is my Homeboy” by Judi Holler and she stated, “you can’t be brave unless you’re scared first”. When fear shows up, say hello, welcome it and take a good look at it- because when fear shows up it’s there for a reason! The book taught me to “Slay Doubt + Succeed” I became an official #fearboss and whatever you do in life- you’re going to have fear. It’s your duty not to let it control you + get in the way of your dreams!!!
