South Carolina faces a challenge familiar to many growing states and regions: more people means more waste and greater pressure on existing infrastructure. We're proud to have recently completed work as the consultant on the first comprehensive update to the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services' Solid Waste Management Plan since 1999, helping create a roadmap to accommodate continued growth across the state for the next two decades. Our team drew on stakeholder input and data about waste generation, recycling trends and infrastructure capacity to help outline the plan, which will be published later this year. The result: Clear strategies to strengthen solid waste and recycling programs across South Carolina.

A major milestone for military aviation is ready for launch. Congratulations to North Carolina Global TransPark on the opening of the new C-130 and HH-60 Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Facility. Local food banks around the world are combating food insecurity with the support of our employees. Funded by employee donations to the HDR Foundation and global philanthropic funds, 136 grants totaling more than $415,000 were awarded to local food banks across the U.S., Canada, Australia and the U.K. Many HDR employees also volunteered alongside these local partners to strengthen our impact beyond financial support. “We’ve been able to visit the Burlington, Ontario, food bank three years in a row, and with every visit it makes me proud to be part of an employee-owned organization that can support local communities not only locally, but throughout the world,” said Jason Stahl, P.Eng., section lead for road design and delivery.
