Has Europe become a “digital colony” of the United States? Our COO Raphaël Auphan takes the question head-on in the latest episode of Le Monde de la Cyber. The starting point: we looked at who handles email for Europe's publicly listed companies, and 74% rely on American providers. Plenty of them have a European domain name, but the email behind it is run by a US company. So what does digital sovereignty actually mean? Is it where your data is stored, which country’s laws apply, or whether you could switch providers if you needed to? And what would happen to a business, or a whole country, if access were cut off overnight? Raphael addresses these questions and more the full episode. Link in comments. We’ve said it before, and we’ll keep saying it. 1. If your Google account is compromised so are the accounts you used Google to sign in to. 2. Google sees and keeps records of every app you sign into, which is just more data being fed to the company who primarily makes money from (your) user data For those of you thinking "what you should I do instead?": Make an account with an email alias so if that email address gets compromised/leaked/sold you can just deactivate it and it doesn't link back to your main email address (https://lnkd.in/dG2WFdac). For those of you wondering how to check where you're signed in with Google and how to stop it: Go to https://lnkd.in/emVekUE2 (or Security → Your connections to third-party apps & services → See all connections). Filter for “Sign in with Google.” Select any site, then choose Stop using Sign in with Google to revoke access. :)
