What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?

We needed help with UI/UX design.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially provided Neuron with a kickoff document where we defined the team and the significant views we wanted to be converted into the new design. We also provided some background on the features and functionality of our products.

From there, Neuron reviewed our product and some of our competitors. The team also conducted one-on-one interviews with our users to learn what they liked and disliked about our product's UX and to define the user personas. 

We're currently implementing the design system they created. We may continue to work with them to do one-off designs for things we didn't get to.

What is the team composition?

We worked with four team members, including Ryan, a partner at Neuron; Matt, their creative director; and two designers.

How did you come to work with Neuron?

I wasn't involved in the initial hiring process.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $200,000–$900,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from August 2024–February 2025. Although we still contact Neuron for consulting.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don't have any concrete results yet since we're currently in the implementation phase, but Neuron's designs looked great, and our clients were impressed with them when we shared the design results. Neuron helped us create a UI that was easier to use independently without much training.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

Overall, the team was very communicative, timely, and organized. We gave Neuron a lot of feedback in sessions, and they worked through everything without needing reminders. We used Figma to review the design work, communicated using Slack, and leveraged Google Docs.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Neuron's design skills were impressive. The team was experienced with Figma and created a user-friendly design system; they were user-oriented developers implementing the designs.

We also appreciated their flexibility and willingness to work with us. We came up with a high-level project plan, but things came up that made things more urgent. Neuron quickly adapted and got things done.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It was hard to keep up with what reviews we still needed to do at a certain point versus what Neuron was editing. We had a lot of loose threads and decisions to come back to.

It would've been helpful if the team had a tracking system to let us know how at risk we were of completing everything we wanted to complete by the end of the project schedule. An ongoing visibility system of the sprint schedules and the project's progress to stay on track would've been excellent.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Spend time before the project begins to document your system definitions for different user types and experiences. Expect to spend a lot of time to get the most out of the design project. Neuron can only help so much, but you must also be engaged.

I’m the VP of Global Digital for Enstall. Our company produces and sells mounting systems for solar installations, which are the systems that put solar panels on roofs. We’re active in the US and Europe with various business units and a mother company that must be aligned.

I’m responsible for all digital services provided to solar installers to help them do their work.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?

We wanted to make installers’ lives easier through our digital services. We aimed to launch a new digital platform that would help installers manage all the phases of a solar project, including design, sales, and installation.

Although we were a scalable, international organization, we weren’t very digital-savvy. We had to quickly learn how to go through a digital transition because we were also rebranding the mother company and digital propositions. Additionally, many stakeholders were integrating partner services into our own service, so we had a highly fragmented and complex landscape.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Neuron has designed our new digital platform for solar installers from scratch using Figma. They’ve researched and analyzed the competitive landscape to understand the tools installers use today and how we could combine or improve those. 

Initially, we provided Neuron with a bigger vision of providing integrated services for solar installers and a high-level digital strategy. However, Neuron still had to prove the concept and define the user journeys and rollout strategy.

What is the team composition?

We work with two key people, but we’ve been up to five teammates during busy periods.

How did you come to work with Neuron?

I searched on Google for a UI/UX design boutique agency in the Bay area because one of our primary business units is located there. After I found them, I read their reviews on Clutch.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent between $500,000–$1 million.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in January 2023, and our relationship is ongoing. However, the engagement is almost finished because we launched the big project in April 2024.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don’t know the business results yet because we just launched, but the first signals are great. The installer community has received the project well, so Neuron’s results have been excellent.

Moreover, Neuron did a brilliant job of understanding all the participants and keeping track of every detail of the services. The team always saw the whole picture and was on top of things. Sometimes we lost the overview, but they always kept it in sight. Overall, the project was not just about launching the service for installers but designing the whole platform, the new brand, and its design system while working with parties in Europe and the US, so their work was impressive.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re the type of supplier that sometimes makes you feel guilty because you don’t perform as well as they do. Neuron always keeps their word and delivers on time, so they lead by example.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Matt (UX Lead & Creative Director) and Michelle (UX Lead) have been instrumental. They’ve really understood our company, market, and most of all, our customers. They needed to know the customers’ pain points and needs to address them, which meant understanding their lives, which is quite complex. Overall, they’ve done an excellent job understanding the customers and stakeholders in our company.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their dedication is impressive. Neuron is truly part of our team; they don’t feel like an outside agency delivering an assignment. They’re always on top of things, working with the developers, and ensuring it’s easy to implement their work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I really have to look for something because we’ve been very happy, but sometimes they could be less polite. Sometimes we make mistakes or don’t do things the way we should. Since they’re the experts, they know how it should be done. They speak their minds when we’re about to make mistakes, but they could be more forthcoming sometimes. However, it could be cultural because we’re based in Amsterdam, and they’re in the US.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You can move faster if you’re well prepared. In our case, we weren’t ready, so we hired Neuron; they helped us develop our own strategy. 

If you don’t know what you need to do, they’re also available to help. Initially, we were skeptical about their discovery phase because we felt we already knew what we wanted. However, having Neuron spend time to do a thorough analysis really paid off. Giving them the time to get an in-depth understanding of your customers, processes, and industry will pay off later on because they’ll be able to have that as a reference.

I’m the co-founder of an action sports-targeted mobile and web app that empowers skill-based competitors from around the world. Our product allows users from different countries to connect and make money by competing in virtual, peer-judged challenges.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?

We wanted to bring our vision of these skill-based competitions to the masses and democratize action sports. Our original MVP was built too quickly and many of its features were poorly thought out, so we brought in Neuron to rebuild it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Neuron fully immersed themselves into the sports world to really get a grasp of what we're trying to create and for what purpose.  Since we're more sports-oriented, we let them take the ropes when it comes to the technical aspects of the project. 

Neuron was tasked with rebuilding the mobile app, redoing its branding and design. The team went into developing versions of it for the web as well as for Android and iOS devices, all the while coordinating with our third-party development team. 

We continue to work with some on iterating and releasing new features. 

What is the team composition?

There are a few people working on this project, but our main contact and point person is Matt (Creative Director).

How did you come to work with Neuron?

A colleague of mine had worked with Neuron on a web app that I was thoroughly impressed with. They were the perfect fit, so I brought them over. 

How much have you invested with them?

I believe we've spent $650,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in May 2019, and it’s an ongoing partnership.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our product is still young, but our user base is now growing In terms of buys per month. Neuron has really helped us overcome a lot of strategic design decisions, saving us a lot of time and money through their foresight. They’ve helped us redesign from start to finish, and I couldn't have done it without them. 

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

I would rate them very highly for project management. It’s just incredible. They’ve worked with us for months after the product was launched to make sure that we were capturing ideas and feedback from our users and making iterations accordingly. I can't say enough nice things about these guys because they've given us exactly what we needed. 

We communicate via Slack and email. They provide frequent updates and constantly let us know what’s going on.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a team that can troubleshoot and think ahead of us. Even though all we've given them is our tacit industry knowledge, they were able to produce a wonderful product. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Neuron continuously surprises and excites us, so I don’t think there’s anything for them to improve. They've worked above and beyond the call of duty. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Allow Neuron to exercise their creative freedom. Value their advice because they know exactly how to build a complicated app while making it function well and look nice.

I’m the CEO and founder of a digital health company that acts as a real-time analytics platform, taking data from patients. We focus on patient-generated health data through mobile-connected health biometrics and then the predictive analytics behind that. Our services assist healthcare providers.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?

We’ve worked with Neuron on various small engagements. For this project, we needed a company that would help us figure out an initial brand guide, which included a brand name and color palette. The branding guide needed to match our target market and services. They also needed to assist with our UX/UI on the mobile side of the platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Along with coming up with our entire brand guide, their team also helped with logo design. For the UX portion of the project, I provided Neuron with feature function descriptions, workflows, and personas. I also relayed what our intent and goals were behind the usability of the app. Their team took all of that information and created wireframes and screens during that process.

What is the team composition?

Ryan (Senior UX Designer & Partner, Neuron) was my primary point of contact. Along with their core team, I also interfaced with Chris (Senior UX Designer, Neuron) and Matt (Senior UX Designer & Partner, Neuron). I worked closely with the founder & director as well.

How did you come to work with Neuron?

They were referred to me.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $250,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started this project with Neuron in September 2017, and it wrapped up July 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Motorola adopted one of our white-label apps. Feedback regarding the UX has been phenomenal. We plan on working with Neuron again this summer.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management style was excellent. Their team is communicative and organized. The founder was closely involved in the branding process, assisting with messaging, naming, and logo design. Along with weekly video meetings, we communicate using email and phone calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their founders aren’t only knowledgable in graphic design and technical aspects. They have degrees and other experience in topics like architecture. I find that very compelling. The same attention to detail needed in architecture is evident in their work output as designers.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have anything. Everything I asked for, Neuron delivered.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be involved and candid in the process. Neuron is a great team that knows what they’re doing. Utilize them and stay involved. You’ll get more than what you signed up for.

I work as a consultant with a humanitarian fundraising organization. We also work with a variety of initiatives to help hire appropriate labor, establish the right news feed messaging features, and address other needs.

What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?

Our CEO hired them to design and develop important features and functionality, including user profiles and other deliverables.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Much of the project was completed before I joined the company, so I worked with some of the follow up processes after the concrete deliverables were in hand. Some of those included a detailed product outline with screens and intricate backend work on user profiles and personas. They built the backend on Ruby on Rails and the frontend in React. I assessed the work to suggest additional solutions to improve the business impact further. We brainstormed optimizations to target the necessary KPIs.

What is the team composition?

We worked with five or six individuals, possibly seven. There was a creative lead, a design lead who doubled as an operational manager, and a team of three to five designers and developers.

How did you come to work with Neuron?

Our CEO found them before I joined the project.

How much have you invested with them?

I wasn’t responsible for the monetary side, but I think the project was around $500,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We kicked off the engagement around January 2017 and finished the larger portion of the project in July 2017. After that, we reengaged them for some specific design projects and problem solving.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’m really happy with all the hard work they did. When the beta test launched, we collected data on user behavior. Their designs were well balanced, and they made helpful changes to make sure user registrations were up. They were receptive to our goals and helped us brainstorm ways to execute and suit our needs.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was good, and they always knew when to loop people into the conversation. They included the right stakeholders at advantageous moments and made sure everything moved in the right direction and got delivered on time. Most of our conversations were through Slack, emails, and by phone when necessary.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I really enjoyed working with them. Our main goals were a good user experience and appropriate metrics to demonstrate the efficacy of the project. They really helped make those happen.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It was a large project, and they handled it very well. I don’t have any constructive feedback for them. They were always reactive and never made the same mistake twice.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Communication is key; make sure both sides understand the project. Neuron is a smart, receptive team, and the more information you give them, the more they will be able to help. The only instances where things took longer than expected were times when we didn’t clearly explain our goal.

I’m a user experience and industrial design consultant at Orbit Interaction.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?

One of our clients was developing concepts for two major corporations. We needed a vendor to help with the various components of the project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They helped produce interactive prototypes, documentation, and videos. The team also provided work around a community-based mobile application that provides users with a way to store their medical records. They did the research, digital strategy, the business strategy, mobile app development, and the UX/UI architecture. The platform utilized crowdsourcing to find providers and determine costs for different kinds of medical providers. However, the solution never materialized because its leadership decided to go in a different direction.

What is the team composition?

We worked with Mark (Senior UX/UI Designer, Neuron), Ryan (Senior UX/UI Designer, Neuron), Chris (Senior UX Designer and Strategist, Neuron), Matt (Senior UX Designer and Lead Visual Designer, Neuron), and Michelle (UX Designer, Neuron).

How did you come to work with Neuron?

This project was instituted by one of the funders that I was working with. When the opportunity arose to develop this platform, we were already in the process of working with Neuron and had them take the lead on the project.

Neuron was founded by my long-time co-consulting partner. He had been a professor teaching interaction design and UX architecture. He handpicked a number of his very best students to start Neuron. They operated in the same way that I had done consulting projects with him in the past.

We spent $250,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together from February–September 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The businesses I was associated with fizzled out for reasons unconnected to the design quality and platform sophistication. Neuron’s work was excellent. The videos, prototypes, and designs were stunning, and got a lot of praise. They’re really good at what they do.

How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?

Mark was extremely sharp and professional. There was a coalition of groups working on the project including some difficult people on the client side. Mark deftly managed around those issues, especially during the most challenging projects. We coordinated through email and phone.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team’s architectural background distinguished them from the competition. They had a comprehensive understanding of the different factors that go into successful products, services, and platforms. Their research on competitive platform designs for the medical project was particularly impressive. Neuron was efficient and document their work more regularly than most design firms.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. I hope they continue to grow and expand, and maybe get into physical product design work as well. They have the breadth and expertise to continue branching out.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

To be the most effective, work very closely with them. Communicate as much as possible about the needs and goals. Work with them to flush those out and get them to work.

I’ve watched a lot of consultancies charge clients a lot of money to provide something that wasn’t a full solution. In contrast, Neuron does top-notch and comprehensive work. They’re thinking about all the angles and perspectives that go into a project.
