We are the European Space Agency’s technology broker in Czechia

O nás

The European Space Agency is Europe's gateway to space. The Czech Republic has been a member of ESA since 2008. With its main purpose to coordinate and support the development of European space activities, ESA also ensures that related investments bring long term benefits to the Europeans. Technology transfer is a way to achieve that, and that is why the Technology Broker team is here. ESA Technology Broker operates in the Czech Republic under Technology Center Prague since 2015 as a part of Business Support Department. Technology transfer aims to increase the frequency of knowledge and technology transfers from ESA space programs to non-space sectors. That includes companies or universities working in the development of space technologies to other industrial areas outside the space sector. The potential of space technologies engages a wide variety of companies which solve diverse challenges. Leveraging existing know-how and technology for space use often lays down a path for use in the non-space sector. Connecting the non-space sector with space technology provides a competitive advantage for diverse entities through access to innovative space technology solutions. A broad range of Czech industries benefit from the technology transfer actively monitored by the Technology Broker team by accessing product and process innovations, while enhancing their resistance to future technology challenges.

As part of our continued technical development at ESA Technology Broker Czechia, Anna will be attending the RADECS 2026 Technical Sessions in Prague to deepen our understanding and news of how radiation affects electronic hardware intended for demanding space environments. The programme will focus on Single Event Effects in devices and integrated circuits and Radiation Hardness Assurance — including how energetic particles can influence semiconductor behaviour, reliability and system performance, and how these risks are addressed through component selection, testing, qualification and mitigation strategies. This knowledge is directly relevant to our work when assessing technologies for potential space applications. A stronger understanding of radiation effects enables us to evaluate hardware with greater technical precision, ask more relevant engineering questions, and better understand the qualification effort required for reliable operation in space. Looking forward to strengthening our expertise at the intersection of space electronics, radiation effects, hardware reliability and technology transfer. As ESA Technology Brokers, we support technology scouting for ESA Spark Funding, connect space and non-space partners, identify opportunities for technology transfer, and support the validation of technologies for projects moving both from space to non-space sectors and from non-space industries into the space sector. RADECS 2026 will take place from 28th September till 2nd October at the Prague Congress Centre, 5. května 65, Prague. #RADECS2026 #ESA #ESATechnologyBroker #RadiationEffects #RadiationHardness #SpaceElectronics #HardwareReliability #TechnologyTransfer #ceskacestadovesmiru #EUSpace Technologické centrum Praha ESA Technology Broker Czechia European Space Agency - ESA ESA Technology

Two days in Brno. Aerospace, defence and space supply chains at one table. On 16–17 September, Technologické centrum Praha took part in the first Aerospace & Defense Meetings Brno at the Brno Exhibition Centre. The format was highly practical: pre-scheduled B2B meetings (we have had around 30 in total), showcase booths (approx 35) and targeted discussions between manufacturers, suppliers, technology companies, associations and public-sector partners. For Anna Ruščák, ESA Technology Broker Czechia, it was an opportunity to bring technology transfer directly into deep tech conversations, for future project and technology needs. One of the key sessions was: Space Suppliers Summit Brno: New Frontiers in Space: Innovation, Commercialisation and Strategic Capabilities The panel brought together Ondřej Šimek, Head of the TC Business Innovation Hub at Technologické centrum Praha and ESA Technology Broker Czechia, Ondřej Sležek from Brno Space Cluster and Kristián Ondáč from the Slovak Space Office. Our focus during the two days was concrete: → Technology transfer — identifying technologies with potential beyond their original sector → Technology scouting — finding technological solutions for specific industrial needs → Commercialisation — connecting technology capabilities with market opportunities → Cross-sector collaboration — linking space with aerospace, defence and other industries. Technologické centrum Praha was represented with colleagues Ondřej Pokorný, Jiri Janosec, Anna Ruščák, ESA Technology Broker Czechia and Martina Vycudilíková. The message from Brno was clear: innovation does not necessarily start with developing another technology from scratch. Sometimes the right technology already exists — in another company, another industry or another value chain. Our job is to help find that match. If your company is looking for a technology, has a solution with potential for another sector, or wants to explore opportunities between space and non-space markets, get in touch. Big thank you to the whole organisering team! And see you again in Brno in 2028! #ESATechnologyBroker #TechnologyTransfer #TechnologyScouting #ADMBrno26 #ADM #SpaceIndustry #Aerospace #Defence #TechnologyCentrePrague #ADMBrno28

  • 🚀 Your software could run in deep space—150 million km from Earth. European Space Agency - ESA is opening a new opportunity for European innovators to run experimental software onboard the Hera spacecraft, after it completes its primary asteroid-defence mission. This is not a simulation or a ground-based test. Selected software will actually run on Hera in deep space. Who is this for? Researchers and companies in Europe working on areas such as AI, autonomous spacecraft operations, onboard intelligence, image processing, navigation, anomaly detection, data processing and other advanced space software concepts. ESA is looking for focused experiments that can push spacecraft intelligence and autonomy beyond current operational standards. How to apply? Submit an initial outline of your software experiment through ESA’s Open Space Innovation Platform (OSIP) under the call “Autonomous Software Experiments on Hera.” The first submission is an outline for ESA evaluation — you do not need to submit the complete flight-ready implementation at this stage. 📅 Key dates Apply now: the OSIP call is currently open. Mid-October 2026: ESA plans to select the winning ideas. 31 May 2027: selected teams must provide their complete ,,implementation package” and source code for validation. August 2027: ESA plans a one-month period of in-flight software experiments aboard Hera. 🛰️ When does it fly? Hera is already in space, having launched in 2024. It is travelling toward the Didymos–Dimorphos asteroid system, where it will investigate the consequences of NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s DART asteroid-deflection experiment. After Hera completes its main planetary-defence objectives in mid-2027, the spacecraft will become a unique deep-space software laboratory, with the guest-software campaign planned for August 2027. 💡 What is the purpose? ESA wants to test technologies that could allow future spacecraft to think, analyse, decide and operate more autonomously — reducing dependence on ground control, improving mission resilience and enabling more capable missions farther from Earth. The experiments will run in a protected sandbox environment on Hera’s second processor core, separated from the spacecraft’s flight-critical software. Individual hosted software experiments are expected to run for limited periods, typically a few hours at a time. This could be a remarkable opportunity for European AI, robotics, autonomy and space-software teams: build software on Earth → validate it with ESA → run it on a spacecraft in deep space. 🌌 👉 Apply through ESA’s Open Space Innovation Platform (OSIP), “Autonomous Software Experiments on Hera.” Worth sharing with researchers, university labs, deep-tech teams, space startups and software/AI groups who may have an experiment capable of flying beyond Earth. #ESA #Hera #DART #SpaceSoftware #DeepSpace #PlanetaryDefence CORAC Engineering ZAITRA, TRL Space, Spacemanic, esc Aerospace UptimeAI Inc.

European Space Agency - ESA is inviting innovators to submit software experiments for testing onboard the Hera spacecraft during its extended mission phase. After completing its primary planetary defence objectives, Hera is planned to serve as a deep-space software laboratory, providing an opportunity to validate new software concepts in an operational mission environment millions of kilometres from Earth. Through a dedicated ESA’s Open Space Innovation Platform (OSIP) call, ESA Technology and ESA Space Safety are seeking proposals that contribute to more autonomous, resilient and efficient spacecraft operations. Areas of interest include onboard image processing, autonomous decision-making, guidance, navigation and control, data compression and prioritisation, anomaly detection, and other concepts supporting spacecraft autonomy. As highlighted by ESA Director of Technology, Engineering and Quality Dietmar Pilz, the initiative is intended to help accelerate European innovation by enabling researchers and industry to test new approaches for onboard intelligence and autonomy in a real mission environment. Read more and submit your idea by 15 September 2026: https://lnkd.in/eUxz24nW
