Four 210-tonne transformers. Eight cooling systems. Two chartered vessels. Multiple transport modes across Europe. That was the logistics challenge behind the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind projects in Poland. Working with Hitachi Energy, our specialised project logistics team coordinated the transport of critical electrical equipment from Łódź to Gdańsk by rail. From there, the cargo continued by sea to Vlissingen in the Netherlands aboard dedicated multipurpose vessels. The equipment was destined for offshore substations being constructed by Smulders and will help connect the future wind farms to the Polish grid. Once operational, Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 will comprise 100 offshore wind turbines with a combined capacity of 1,440 MW. As offshore wind projects continue to grow in size and complexity, so do the demands on project logistics, and projects of this scale require far more than transportation. Every movement must be carefully planned and coordinated across rail networks, ports, vessels, project partners and installation schedules, while maintaining the highest QHSE standards. As offshore wind and connecting power transmission projects continue to grow in scale and complexity, getting the right equipment to the right place at the right time is becoming an increasingly critical challenge. This is one of the key topics we'll be discussing at WindEnergy Hamburg on 22-25 September. A great example is our work supporting several major HVDC cable projects across Europe, including A-Nord and SuedLink in Germany, the Tyrrhenian Link in Italy, as well as other strategic grid infrastructure projects in the UK, France and Belgium. Our special project logistics teams around the globe are executing complex multimodal transport solutions for leading cable manufacturers such as Prysmian, Sumitomo Electric Industries, and Taihan. These projects involve the transportation of cable reels weighing up to 100 tonnes from manufacturing facilities worldwide to intermediate storage locations and unspooling areas, ensuring that installation activities can proceed safely and according to schedule. From detailed route planning and heavy-lift handling to port operations, ocean freight, inland transportation, and storage management, every movement requires precise coordination and close collaboration between all stakeholders involved.
