Confusing name and renaming

As of today, there are three relevant sits projects that may be confused, these are: r-sits, its python bindings pysits, and this one SITS_utils.

I understand that both the scope and architecture of the e-sensing project are very different from this one, even though there are some overlapping functionalities. Because of this, I think that that the pypi name sits, may be misleading, specially if you are installing with pip install sits.

Because of this, I propose to rename the package in pypi to install by the name pip install sits-utils. This would allow the usage of this name both in conda and pypi without additional confusions, and I think would better align with the scope of this project, it being in a sense a set of utilities work with cloud geospatial information.

Well that's a good question. And I'm still wondering if it wouldn't be better to change the package name.

I've seen the e-sensing project, but I've never used it because it's coded in R. As for pysits, whose first version dates back to June 2025, it's wrapper for e-sensing/r-sits, not a standalone tool.

In my opinion, the simplest name is always the best. So I would keep pip install sits. And the use of 'sits-*' could be reserved for optional tools around (no idea now).

But I understand your arguments and, we can consider it in the short/mid-term!
