| | | Coming after Jaguar (Mac OS X 10.2), Panther was supposed to be designated Mac OS X Version 11, but Apple eventually settled on 10.3. A CD picture with version 11 label was available for a while on Apple’s public relation subsite. |

| |  | Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar was the first release of Macintosh operating system to use product codename as the actual release title. It was also universally regarded the first really mature version of Mac OS X. In GUI department Jaguar introduced Quartz Extreme (utilizing video acceleration for desktop composition), refined Aqua interface, slightly enhanced Finder, and improved accessibility features. | |  | We’re seeing it happening over and over again. Mac OS 3.0 vs. 8.0, Mac OS X 10.1 vs 10.3 (both pictured), Windows 3.0 vs. 95, Workbench 1.0 vs. 2.0... Each time the GUI starts with white, and then goes metallic. You can usually see the effect throughout the whole interface – looking around at trash cans might be a good start.
