Outreach Education & Skilling, IIT Guwahati, in collaboration with the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), successfully conducted a three-day residential training programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) from 18–20 May 2026 in support of the Government of Assam’s initiative to introduce “Artificial Intelligence” as an elective subject in secondary schools.

The programme focused on strengthening teacher preparedness by equipping Class XII teachers with subject knowledge, pedagogical approaches, and hands-on exposure required for teaching Artificial Intelligence effectively in schools.

A major highlight of the programme was the launch of the Class XII Artificial Intelligence textbook developed to support implementation of the curriculum. The textbook has been authored by Prof. (Dr.) Shyamanta Moni Hazarika, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Guwahati; Dr. Debanga Raj Neog, Assistant Professor, Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, IIT Guwahati; and Dr. Sadiq Hussain, Deputy Controller of Examinations, Dibrugarh University.

The residential training builds upon earlier collaborative efforts undertaken by Outreach Education & Skilling and ASSEB. During the previous year, 124 teachers were trained in the first batch for Class XI and 63 teachers in the second batch for Class XII. The present programme continued these efforts to strengthen AI education readiness in schools.

The programme was inaugurated on 18 May 2026 by Prof. Hemant B. Kaushik, Dean, Outreach Education & Skilling Section, IIT Guwahati. Mr. Naranarayan Nath, ACS, Secretary, ASSEB, delivered the inaugural address, while Mr. Dilip Boro, Joint Registrar and Head of Section, Outreach Education & Skilling, presented the vote of thanks.

The valedictory session held on 20 May 2026 featured Shri. R.C. Jain, IAS (Retd), Chairman, ASSEB, as Chief Guest. Prof. Hemant B. Kaushik addressed participants, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Dilip Boro.

Through such collaborative initiatives, IIT Guwahati is honoured to contribute towards strengthening educational capacity building and supporting future-ready academic environments.
