IIT Guwahati, ICAR-ATARI Train Farmers in Soil Health Testing

A capacity-building program on “Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) Kit and Their Distribution” was organized by IIT Guwahati in collaboration with ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, Guwahati, at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sonitpur on 25 April 2026.


The Project Investigator of this Project is Prof Sudip Mitra of School of Agro and Rural Technology, IIT Guwahati. The program witnessed active participation from farmers representing 36 blocks across six districts, along with Subject Matter Specialists from KVKs of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Darrang, Sonitpur, and Baksa.


The event was graced by District Development Commissioner Shri Sanjeev Sharma, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Dr. Zakir Hussain, Senior Scientist of Assam Agricultural University Dr. Manoj Kumar Chouhan, and Dr. Narayan Chandra Sahu from ICAR-ATARI, Guwahati, along with researchers from the School of Agro and Rural Technology, IIT Guwahati.



The training emphasized hands-on, field-oriented techniques for the rapid estimation of soil organic carbon, a critical indicator of soil health and a cornerstone of climate-resilient agriculture.



This program concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to promote sustainable soil management practices, strengthen climate resilience in agriculture, and enhance long-term soil health through improved carbon stewardship.
