Database dumps

Until some weeks ago http://dumps.wikimedia.org/backup-index.html used to show 4 dumps in progress at the same time. That meant that new database dumps normally was available within about 3 weeks for all databases except for enwiki and maybe dewiki where the dump process due to size took longer time. However the 4 dumps processes at one time become 3 some weeks ago. And after massive failures at June 4, only one dump has been in progress at the same time. So at the current speed it will take several months to come thru all dumps. Is it possible to speed up the process again using several dump processes at the same time? Thank you, Byrial

EBNF grammar project status?

What's the status of the project to create a grammar for Wikitext in EBNF? There are two pages: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikitext_Metasyntax http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Markup_spec Nothing seems to have happened since January this year. Also the comments on the latter page seem to indicate a lack of clear goal: is this just a fun project, is it to improve the existing parser, or is it to facilititate a new parser? It's obviously a lot of work, so it needs to be of clear benefit. Brion requested the grammar IIRC (and there's a comment to that effect at http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7 ), so I'm wondering what became of it. Is there still a goal of replacing the parser? Or is there some alternative plan? Steve

MediaWiki to Latex Converter

Hi everyone, I recently set up a MediaWiki (http://server.bluewatersys.com/w90n740/) and I need to extra the content from it and convert it into LaTeX syntax for printed documentation. I have googled for a suitable OSS solution but nothing was apparent. I would prefer a script written in Python, but any recommendations would be very welcome. Do you know of anything suitable? implementing the Interlanguage extension

Sorry about bugging the list about it, but can anyone please explain the reason for not enabling the Interlanguage extension? See bug 15607 - https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15607 I believe that enabling it will be very beneficial for many projects and many people expressed their support of it. I am not saying that there are no reasons to not enable it; maybe there is a good reason, but i don't understand it. I also understand that there are many other unsolved bugs, but this one seems to have a ready and rather simple solution. I am only sending it to raise the problem. If you know the answer, you may comment at the bug page. Add record to database

Hi, I have already got the article data from the wikipedia and I stored it on my computer .Now I want to add the article to the local wiki. I have done a lot of reaserches and I know that there are a lot of things to do. If add a record to the page table ,then the revision,recentchange,text,pagelink table and so on will be changed.So I think maybe there is a easy way to do that . Can you tell me what should I do ? Should I simply use 'insert,update,select...'words? Sincerely looking froward you help, thanks vanessa lee

ParserAfterStrip: Bug, deliberate change or incorrect use?

Hi, I have an extension called BugSquish, which I have been happily using on MediaWiki 1.6.10 for quite a long time. I am also aware of other people using it on later versions, but cannot cite specific version numbers where it is known to work. The code works by performing a regex replace on code passed into the ParserAfterStrip hook function that I have set up, to strike out links to bugs that have been marked as fixed. On MW 1.6 this correctly handles <nowiki> and <pre> tags, in that text within these tags is not parsed by the extension. On MW 1.14 and above the code within the <nowiki> tags is parsed and ends up having the regex applied to it, though it is subsequently rendered as plain text by the engine (so the page ends up being filled with HTML/CSS gobbledygook, rendered literally). I am not sure at which revision this change took place. First question: Is this a bug or a deliberate change in functionality, or have I been mis-using the hook all along? Second question: Assuming this is not a bug, how should I rewrite the code to make it behave as it used to? I was contacted by someone working (for) (at) Webzzle, who want to meet me (for unknown reasons as of today). I googled Webzzle to better identify who the guy is and what he is likely to talk to me about. And what I found let me quite dubious. Interaction Testing Automation

Thought to share the early concept of automating user interface testing using Selenium. The following plan was outlined by Ryan Lane.
