[Oshi no Ko]

In the entertainment world, celebrities often show exaggerated versions of themselves to the public, concealing their true thoughts and struggles beneath elaborate lies. Fans buy into these fabrications, showering their idols with undying love and support, until something breaks the illusion. Sixteen-year-old rising star Ai Hoshino of pop idol group B Komachi has the world captivated; however, when she announces a hiatus due to health concerns, the news causes many to become worried.

As a huge fan of Ai, gynecologist Gorou Amemiya cheers her on from his countryside medical practice, wishing he could meet her in person one day. His wish comes true when Ai shows up at his hospital—not sick, but pregnant with twins! While the doctor promises Ai to safely deliver her children, he wonders if this encounter with the idol will forever change the nature of his relationship with her.

This is probably late in the game as I'm writing this review after a rewatch of Season 1. But, the reason why I watched Season 1 is to refresh my memory on the series. I read the manga and finished the series under two years ago; so, rewatcing Season 1 puts a smile on my face to see the characters again. I still cried in the first episode of Season 1 and smiled widely at episode 11 (that wonderful finale). But, the anime has outdone inself it terms of music, animation, soundtrack, and voice acting. If I were an anime-only watching Season 1 for the ... first time, I would recommend this series multiple times to long-time anime viewers for the production quality of the show as well as its message. The message is basically the pressure of the entertainment industry to its hired talent. And, of course, the environment they're working on. I'm not a long-time anime viewer and I don't consume as many anime shows nowadays. In fact, when viewing the teaser posters of the show for the first time during its premiere on 2023, I thought it would be a happy-go-lucky anime. Little did I know it would have its own dark plotline of mysterious aura. But, I'm just here to write a review of this fabulous show and hope you would watch it only for its entertainment value.

Mixed Feelings

Personally I don't care about idol and showbiz they're just ordinary singers, I don't know why they call them that (Like hey they're idols but in a different sense).

As for the anime I only watched it because someone recommended me a manga that was just coming out in CZ otherwise I wouldn't have watched this. And I have to say that the manga surprised me and this isn't bad either, but personally it's not something I'm interested in, since anime about idols is mainly about singing, dancing and I'm not into that kind of stuff and I'm not interested in showbiz in general.

So I give ... it a 6/10, which might be a shame for some people, but from the beginning it didn't grab me strongly (manga or anime) or excite me to eagerly await what happens next. As for the rest, the animation was nice (what more could you expect from a popular anime, but I'm not going to raise the rating because of it either) I somehow didn't notice the OST and the OP/ED went beyond me. Admittedly the OP was good, but I didn't really like it that much. As for the characters they were ok, they were bearable, I just didn't care about their pasts or their problems, they were unnecessarily dramatic.

I'd sum it all up by saying it was good, whether animation wise or in other aspects, and while everyone here liked it, I personally didn't care for it and would say I watched it forcefully. Personally, I liked kaguya-sama more than this from the author, because it's a comedy that I prefer over some drama that I don't care for and have been trying to avoid lately.

This show represents in big part the most annoying aspects of Japanese storytelling, and it proves that ratings are not a reliable representation of quality, but of the average viewing habits, culture and expectations.

The story is 90% plot contrivance, plot holes, inconsistencies, unnecessary forced drama, emotional rhetoric, and random nonsense just to increase a fake feeling of depth/complexity.
Simply put: POORLY WRITTEN.
What on heaven earth and hell can anybody ever possibly see in it to rate it so high?
I peeked into the plot of the rest of the story and it's absolutely LAUGHABLE in all possible ways.

Let's be honest, the only reason why s... like this ... get such a high rating is because good stories are EXTREMELY rare. People are starving for good storytelling, and in the desperation of anybody who's starving, even crap like this tastes amazing.
Also, the lack of high-level storytelling makes us used to consider mid-level as "peak".

I find it baffling and sad that there are 3 seasons of this, while MUCH better stuff (particularly among Korean storytelling) don't get even one. What a shame.
