Heya, just read your reviews and thought I'd let ya know I enjoyed them and look forward to any future lit student sounding reviews you might do lol :). I agree entirely with your Katanagatari review, and most of your Kino one.

What with Kino's Journey being my fav anime since I watched it 15 years ago, I wasn't gonna let a random review on the front page only scoring it a 7 go unread haha ;P . I can definitely understand your qualms with its themes, and lack of realism in terms of its worldbuilding. But lucky for me, the 'fairy tale' aesthetic of the show is totally my kinda thing, including the odd 'vcr filter.' I like interpreting the vcr filter as a means to distract the viewer; to remind them that they are 'observing' a show, and thus Kino themselves. This isn't a world to get 'absorbed' into; you are not viewing the world through Kino's eyes, through their interpretations of the world. Rather, you too are an observer of Kino, as they go on their travels. Or maybe it also just appeals to me cause it reminds me of a very specific wind up tv toy I had as a child lol.

The standout episodes of the series, and of course Kino themself as you agree, rise so far above the shows faults that it's impossible for me personally not to love it.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
