BETA Technologies' stock jumped 18.7% in after-hours trading Tuesday following an SEC filing revealing that Amazon has acquired a 5.3% stake in the electric aviation company. Amazon holds 11,753,896 shares of BETA's Class A common stock through its subsidiary Amazon.com NV Investment Holdings, with sole voting and investment power. BETA Technologies, based in South Burlington, Vermont, develops electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft for logistics and transportation. The investment suggests Amazon's interest in expanding delivery capabilities through electric aviation technology. Neither company has commented on the investment or potential partnership plans. The stake was disclosed in a Schedule 13G filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Amazon One Medical has launched Health Insights, a beta feature that helps members interpret routine lab results through personalized analysis and evidence-based recommendations. The feature, included at no additional cost with membership, analyses over 50 biomarkers from standard bloodwork. Developed in partnership with Lifeforce, Health Insights provides members with a personalized wellness score, detailed biomarker analysis organised by health domains such as cardiovascular and metabolic function, and lifestyle recommendations. The feature integrates with Health AI, One Medical's conversational agent, allowing members to ask follow-up questions about their results. Eligible members over 18 with recent blood test results can access the feature through the One Medical app. The service is designed to complement clinical care and enhance provider-patient conversations whilst maintaining HIPAA-compliant privacy standards.
Over 160 companies in New York state have filed mass layoff notices since March 2024, but none have attributed workforce cuts to "technological innovation or automation", despite the option being available on required paperwork for nearly a year. Governor Kathy Hochul added the AI option to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filings to track automation-driven job losses. The 750-plus notices, spanning 162 employers and affecting nearly 28,300 workers, included filings from Amazon, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley—all AI adopters. Goldman Sachs led with over 4,100 affected workers, whilst Amazon reported 660. The absence of AI citations comes despite job search firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas finding that nearly 55,000 US companies attributed cuts to AI adoption last year. Amazon stated AI wasn't behind the "vast majority" of its cuts.
STMicroelectronics has signed an agreement to supply chips to Amazon. The deal establishes the chipmaker as a supplier of semiconductor technologies and products for AWS data centres, whilst giving Amazon the option to purchase a stake of up to 2.7% in STMicroelectronics.
Amazon just called their $475 million investment in Saks Global “worthless.” Let that sink in.
