Baidu and Uber bring autonomous ride-hailing to Dubai via Apollo Go partnership with RTA

Baidu and Uber have partnered with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority to launch Apollo Go autonomous ride-hailing service in Dubai. The service is expected to begin operating this month in the Jumeirah area via the Uber app, with expansion planned based on operational results and regulatory approvals. Passengers booking Uber Comfort or UberX may be matched with fully autonomous Apollo Go vehicles, or can select the "Autonomous" option directly. Third-party operator New Horizon will handle fleet management. The deployment supports Dubai's goal of making 25% of all transportation trips autonomous by 2030. Apollo Go has logged over 240 million autonomous kilometres globally, with more than 140 million in fully driverless mode. The service operates across 22 cities and completes over 250,000 weekly rides.

Uber acquires Getir's delivery operations in Turkey following $1bn Trendyol Go deal

Uber has reached an agreement with Mubadala to acquire Getir's delivery operations in Turkey, pending regulatory approval. Uber launches free snowmobile tours to UNESCO Dolomites site for Olympic visitors in Cortina

Uber has launched a free snowmobile tour service for Olympic spectators in Cortina d'Ampezzo, offering weekend excursions to the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located 23 kilometres from the Olympic venues. The "Uber Snowmobile" service, bookable exclusively through Uber's app, runs throughout February during the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Uber CEO says deliveries key to making robotaxis financially viable

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said deliveries could be crucial to making robotaxis financially viable, suggesting autonomous vehicles on Uber's network could switch between ride-hailing and delivery services as demand fluctuates throughout the day. Speaking on Uber's fourth-quarter earnings call, Khosrowshahi argued that combining ride-hailing with Uber's food delivery and freight businesses would allow higher vehicle utilisation than competitors. Uber's delivery segment grew 29% in the fourth quarter, outpacing its 18% ride-hailing growth. Uber is partnering with companies like Waymo to integrate self-driving cars into its app and collaborating with Nvidia to train autonomous vehicle AI using data from human drivers. The company recently launched AV Labs to support these efforts, aiming to improve reliability following incidents like Waymo's San Francisco service suspension.
