If you are running Windows XP, it should be under Hard Drive Partiton:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Local Settings\Application Data. Jens, I looked in the Output Debugger message, and says simply: "Executable file could not be loaded in the debugger" I changed the Project Options to reference "main.exe" as the output... but nothing happens, the error continues... Hello, (really new to this list so please bear with me) I use dumpbin.exe (wich is should be available with the MS free command line tools that come with the .NET sdk). It's a tool that dump such things on .lib, .obj, .dll and other binary formats outputed by the compiler/linker. I use it like that: dumpbin /exports my.dll that show out the name of every function exported, there is also other interesting switches that may help you. Hope this helps. Lorenzo, Please, can you explain more precisely your problem? Putting only "help" does not clarify much... of course that our topic is "helping people", but simply the fact of remembering it in such a way does not aid in helping you. Thanks. Hi all, Running WinXP, SP1. I just uninstalled my exe-only dev-c++ and replaced it with the full version with mingw c/c++. Beyond configuring the compilation tools, I haven't used it yet. Thought I'd update using "Tools->Check for Updates/Packages...", but vUpdate v1.616 comes up with the error * Error: Your devcpp.cfg file is missing the $INCLUDE field in its [VUPDATE] section... ] Ready, hit check mark to begin... and, of course, the check mark button does nothing. Nor does it help to set the options differently, e.g., to the "Default", which sets check boxes to list everything it finds at the update site. There's no devcpp.cfg anywhere in my computer. Should there be? Is there a dev-c++ feature that should set that up for me? Thanks in advance Doug |

When a physical item is faulty and the manufacturer isn't interested in solving the problem, it is always possible to pick the equipment apart and try to solve the problem. A law forbidding decompilation means that a company might invest large sums of money in a software that turns out to be incompatible with another software etc. In Europe, the view is that you should have a similar right to solve the problem yourself. /Per W On Thu, 22 Jan 2004, Daniel Glenfield wrote: > I remember being told by someone (and he would know these things) that > decompilation is NOT illegal in Europe despite seeing those "Decompilation > is illegal" messages on the boot screen of many PCs. I remember being told by someone (and he would know these things) that decompilation is NOT illegal in Europe despite seeing those "Decompilation is illegal" messages on the boot screen of many PCs. This is because Europe got fed up with American companies not making the source code available to software so they amended / did not pass the law that makes it illegal. I don't know any more than this, does anyone else know about it? >From: Scott Simontis <age...@co...> >To: mahmood khaksefidi <mah...@ya...>, >dev...@li... >Subject: Re: [Dev-C++] please help me >Date: Thu, 22 Jan 2004 07:59:00 -0500 > >mahmood khaksefidi wrote: > >>hello all >>I have devcpp >>i wish that change file.exe to file.c or file.cpp >>how can do i? >>thanks >>best regards >>------------------------------------------------------------------------ >>Do you Yahoo!? >>Yahoo! A lot of hackers ( if you think they are people who break into computers, go to www.catb.org/~esr) hang out on USENET and have lots of info. However, this requires you be able to ask smart questions. Head on over to that site given before to read the "How to Ask Smart Questions" HOWTO. [/snip] Thanks for the suggestion. As for definitions and smart questions, these are among the first things that I hand to new developers when the come through the door. After 25 years of doing this it seems the smart thing to do with newer hackers. Eric's stuff should be a must read for anyone who wants to code. I also hand them a copy of Scott Meyer's books on Effective C++ [snip] This is a very good list, but I might suggest getting them VIsual Studio for MSDN access and the help system. [/snip] We are an open source shop, so we really try to avoid using VS (code bloat and all that). It does make us a little more hands on with the code, but it pays benefits in understanding later on. We have used the Win 32 API in the past, but we are moving to wxWindows so that we do not have to concurrently code seperate GUI's when needed. You did know that you can access MSDN for free right? If not you can subscribe to the update service and receive CD's at a fairly rapid and expensive rate. The reason that I have them subscribe to this list is for questions concerning DevC++ itself...not further code development. Thanks for the info. |

You have the source code if you need it. I think what you are talking about is if you have some .exe program on your computer someone else made. The only way to see the code is to reverse engineer or decompile it, both of which are illegal. However, you can look online to see if it has the source code. If it is udner the GNU lisence, you get full source code with the application. |

Do you mean you want to reverse engineer an application? Hello, Finally, the source compiled Ok. But when I tried to use the debug = feature of Dev-C++, the blue cursor doesn't appear in the code. I = compiled the source with the "Generate debugging information" option, = and the parameters -g and -gcoff in the compiler options, and doesn't do = the job. Maybe there is a trick, or the like... did you define your project as a C project, or a C++ project? stdio.h is a C header file -- cstdio is the C++ implementation of same.
