There are a zillion C compatible libraries out there on the net, packed
into .a/.lib/.dll/ files with corresponding headers (for instance libpng
is one, it loads .png files into memory and can be downloaded from
www.libpng.org). Also you need to consider what license you want to use,
GPL is a great choice but MPL etc is also good for some purposes. If you
need commercial code, you typically have to pay a lot for it or possibly
use something published under the BSD license. There is no central
repository or manual that covers *all* libraries out there.
Figure out what you need to do/write (play an mp3 file?) etc and then
ask someone what libraries and tool there is for that specific task.
Don't learn stuff like MFC etc if you dont have too, there is a lot of
better frameworks that make it easier to migrate when needed ie
wxWindows, QT or GTK.
In general, as a start, you should learn a little bit about the ANSI/ISO
C library (which sucks pretty much though), and possibly some C++ and
STL stuff.
I use these for reference, but they are never hard to use if you dont
know what you're looking for:
