I can not answer the random question, but I am doing something similar for the motion detectors. I have a bunch of lights on various house and unit codes. All of my motion detectors are on house code M. When motion is detected on M2 (laundry) then the laundry light is turned on and a 5 minute timer started. If it is after 8pm then the $kit_hall light is also turned on. If motion is detected while the timer is still counting then the timer is reset for an additional 5 minutes. When the timer expires then the lights are set off. There are a couple of other examples of this in the attached files for Master Bedroom and Guest Area. I am sure that I stole this code from someone else. I think it was originally based on klier.pl but I made a few changes. The only drawback to doing it this was is that there is about a 3 second delay from the time that the hawkeye sees motion and the lights come on. There have been many discussions here about why the delay, but no way around it if you use hawkeyes that I have seen. I suspect that the 3 second delay for outside lights should really not pose any problems. I have all of mine inside and have gotten used to the delay, but if you have others in your household it may bug them to use it for interior lights. I attached two files: items.pl is my main light file motion.pl sets up the motion control stuff I also have an IR.pl file that I use in conjunction with the IR - X10 convertor box. This allows me to use one house code "I" for the convertor box, but control lights on any housecode. Unfortunately there is a slight delay in response with this as well while mh figures out that I2 greally means G2 and acts accordingly. If anyone is interested let me know and I will post this file as well. I am feeling a bit lazy today, so I was wondering if anyone has written code to address the following need for an outside motion sensor. I have a series of motion sensors around the perimeter of my house that alert me when movement is detected. These motion sensors also turn the various outside lights on/off. In order to detect motion at all times (not just at dark), I had to turn off the day/night sensor on these Hawkeye units, thus losing flexibility to directly control my light states even when it's dark. However, I know MH can come to my rescue! I would like to move these motion sensors from direct control of the lights and allow MH to control them. As an example, my front porch light is "O2" and I have a motion sensor "M2" that I want to control this light. Here is the need: ***If 15 minutes before sunset, turn "O2" on ***On a random time between 11:15 pm and 11:45 pm turn "O2" off Question: What is the proper "time_random()" syntax for the above? Now, with this light timer in place, I now want to be alerted of motion at all times, but only turn the front porch light on if it's after the above set timeframe but before sunrise, then turn the light back off after 5 minutes if no new motion has been detected. Should I be using the Hawkeye's built in "turn off after x minutes timer" or just ignore it and let MH do all the work? What's the best way to do this? Anyone? Thanks in advance.... --Brian R |

Hmmm, thats a new one (I think). Do you have a full-time internet connection? If so, we could rig up some code to frequently check the time difference with an internet clock. Then we could try disabling all/some of the code to see if we could narrow in on the trouble maker. If you have a dial up, we should still be able to do this, using mh to auto-dial periodically. One thing to try is to try a bare-bones mh, to see if it is mh or some of the test/user code that causes the problem. Try running this for a while: mh -code_dir c:\empty Where c:\empty (or whatever) is an directory that has something like empty.pl in it (an empty file). If you are on 2.32, also point -code_dir_common to that same directory. Bruce -----Original Message----- I am running Mister House 2.29 on a AMD 300 MHz with win 98. While I am running the program my computer loses time, up to a hour per day. If I turn MH off It only loses about 10 seconds a day. Is there a fix for this or am I the only one? |

Your welcome. I'm gonna have to collect this atta-boy comments into a list,

Hmmm, I didn't think about the case of no names. Your fix (changing the
phon_modem.pl test from NAME to NMBR) seems to be the best fix for that.

I just patched mh/lib/Caller_ID.pm so that it will return the number, if the
name is missing. I added the following $name eq '' test on line 106:
elsif ($last eq "Unavailable" or $name eq '') {
If you are using the compile mh, you can pick up the patch here:
http://misterhouse.net/public/mh.zip

This code is a bit older, so you will probably be better off with the
phone_modem.pl code.

(perl -v or the start of mh errata will show you what the version is) If so, thats the problem. I have seen it also, on some (but not all) code reloads. Not sure about midnight ... maybe there also. Thats the main reason I have stuck with the older release. I know others have been using 5.6 without a problem, so I'm a bit puzzled on that. I'll try to run with a simple code file to see if there is one particluar code member that is at fault. Bruce |

I would like to start by first saying "Wow!" Thank you Bruce for opening my eyes to the full potential of HA. I have MH installed on a NT server running perl 5.22. I just got my Home Director Starter Kit today from Smarthome (on sale for $28) with the CM11A. I installed the TTS, and VR modules from the Microsoft SDK. Both TTS and VR are working. The question regards Caller ID. I have a USR external 56k modem that initializes with the #CID=1. I have verified the modem is returning caller ID information using Hyperterminal. When I use the phone_modem.pl with the caller ID here it does not pick up anything. It appears that phone_modem.pl is looking for the \NAME\ and my caller ID does not return a name. My format is: DATE = TIME = NMBR = The script sees nothing, even though the raw caller ID data can be seen in the mh command window when the phone rings. When I change \NAME\ to \NMBR\ the phone_modem.pl then "sees" the data, but I get this: RING normal: Call from . Phone call is from . DATE = 1030 TIME = 2247 NMBR = 4087794366 callerid data: number=408-779-4366 name= time=1030 2247 The TTS reads "Call from . Phone call is from ." The actual caller or number is not read back. The call data is logged correctly to the call logs. I have also had no luck with callog.pl It never notices the caller ID data at all even though MH reports that Caller ID has been initialized. I thought phone_modem.pl checked the number against the phone_caller_id.list and read back the name. If no name is matched, why would it not simply read the number? Thanks in advance for any help with this. Ray Dzek --- <Insert Silly Signature Graphics Here> --- |

No worries (my Sister lives in Australia). That fix is an uncompiled code
file, so if you change it, it will go into effect on your next code reload
or restart.
That code/common was new with the last mh release. It is just another place
to put normal code files that get read with all your other user code files.

Bruce,
Thanks for the fix suggestion, but unfortunately I'm using the compiled
version of mh. I do not have perl installed.
Will this likely be included in the next version of mh?
Thanks,

I am running Mister House 2.29 on a AMD 300 MHz with win 98. While I am running the program my computer loses time, up to a hour per = day. If I turn MH off It only loses about 10 seconds a day. Is there a = fix for this or am I the only one? New User=20 Todd D. |
