I am using some UPB devices in my home. And as my SwitchLincs need replacing, I am replacing with UPB devices--specifically the us2-40. Other answers below... -----Original Message----- Subject: [mh] UPB vs Insteon under MH Hey all, I was about to go with Insteon dimmers/switches/etc for my install until someone detailed out some of the features of SAI's US2-40 UPB devices. I love the idea that I can use a single device that can be a dimmer, switch, keypad, etc with just the change of the faceplate. Also the idea that the switches are so programmable from a piece of software is just neato! However my great concern (besides the price, hehe) is what level of integration into MH exists for UPB. >> I can't speak to the comparability of the level of support in MH that these protocols have with each other, I can only say that UPB does a good job. Is the the same or greater than Insteon? What computer interface do I use? >> SAI has the UMCDB9 computer interface I like the idea that the physical dimmer/switch is separate from the buttons in the US2-40, so I can divorce the buttons from the control of the device directly. I would love a scenario where when I press a dimmer control, it sends the UPB signal to MH and MH dims the physical device (giving MH a kind of permission admin control over the lights, etc.). Is this practical? Or is the delay too great? >>This is possible. If memory serves me correctly, the person the created the support in MH for UPB is doing this very thing. He presses a button on the switch, the switch tells the computer, the computer does the work by sending the proper signal back to the switch body. Do I really need to link scenes from keypads, or can MH just handle all the control with UPB? >> I'm not positive I understand this question. With the software to configure UPB, you have to tell all the switches what UPBLink command they will respond to and define what UPBLink command the buttons/rockers will generate when pressed. You will also have to define the UPBLinks/devices in MH. MH can be aware/control any and all of these. Unlike Insteon, I didn't find very detailed UPB integration docs on the MH wiki.. Just a UPB info page, is there more information? Is UPB support still maintained? >> I would imagine UPB hasn't caught on due to its price. I haven't seen the author of he UPB support post in a while, but I imagine he is still around and will make modifications as necessary--or someone else will.\ Thanks all, David ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. I'm lloking for a European interface wich will work togeteher with MH - ACT has the ZCS201 http://www.act-solutions.com/HomePro/pdfs/HomePro/Specs/ZCS201_spec.pdf http://www.act-solutions.com/HomePro/pdfs/HomePro/Specs/ZCS201_spec.pdf Is there someone who get this thing to work with linux? I Can't find any protocoll description for the interface.... Only that you need a Z-wave.dll ? I would like to youse z-Wave at home because in germany some manufacturers sell more and more zwave units... Can anybody help? I don't know when it happened (I caught this after upgrading to the svn trunk) but there is a mismatch of commands for controlling the mp3 player in the IA5 web and mp3_winamp.pl The IA5 controls is RUN?Set_the_house_mp3_player_to_ but the mp3_winamp.pl command is Set house mp3 player to Changing mp3_winamp.pl line 75 to read: Set the house mp3 player to will allow the commands to work from the IA5 web pages. Can someone with write access make this correction? Mickey Argo |

For ease of implementation, I'll likely just have an available voice command that will cause the info to be output to the log. What I have been successful doing is iterating over items of type X10_Sensor (X10MS in items.mht) and displaying the idle_time that is maintained by all items. What is interesting is that X10_Sensor items of type "motion" or "brightness" maintain the idle_time correctly; whereas items of type "ms13" seem to get reset such that idle defaults to the last reload time unless the device actually sends a signal since reload. So, the implication is that the data displayed for "ms13" type items can be flawed. Note that you can apply the ms13 type to non-ms13 devices--it's just a convenient way of merging the states of motion and brightness into a single item. Of course, if you separate out these into two distinct items corresponding to motion or brightness (of course you could omit either), then you would have no problem. I'll next work on getting to sort properly--assuming you want most recent reports first. Also, although I no longer am having problems (at least for now), I would be willing to test this to make sure it doesn't break anything in an environment different than yours. thanks, tom |

When downloading misterhouse_src_2104.zip, I discovered it came with mhe.exe and upon running it created a weird c:\windows\temp\PAR-System dir, ran from that temp directory, created an applog referencing Msvcrt.dll and is crashing. :( So my questions are: Is the src supposed to contain mhe.exe? Is mhe.exe suppose to be creating weird temp directories? and is it suppose to run a new mhe.exe from them? Does mhe.exe use msvcrt.dll? |

I found what you were asking in the state logs. I walk in to the bath room and the $Ground_Bath_Motion has a state of 'motion' set_by =$X10_Ground_Bath_Motion. Ok, that web... I never have used the ia5 interface--I am stuck in the yester year with the mh4 interface. The "set ..." was via the external cmd interface "house". It just comes back and tells me that the command wasn't found. I have an old voice_cmd that is referencing $Ground_Bath_lights (that was the name of my physical x10 device before I started tinkering with the Light_item objects) and when I set the Light_Item directly, it turns on the light. I'll go see if I can get to the logs you mentioned. -----Original Message----- From: mis...@li...
