Starting in this release (22.04), the PDF fill-out program now suppresses negative signs in form-lines that are enclosed in parenthesis. These are expected to be negative by convention of accounting notation. Examples of this are in Schedule-D, lines 14 and 21.
Also, for the Schedule-D of the Fed-1040 form, new lines 1a and 8a were added for those who receive 1099-B forms on some transactions.

This release (OTS 22.03) has updates for the popular forms covered in past years, including the USA Federal 1040 forms and schedules, and several states, such as VA, NC, OH, NJ, MA, PA, CA, AZ, and NY. It also includes the Health Savings Account (HSA) Form 8889, Forms 2210, 8606, 8812, 8829, 8959, 8960, and 8995. This year, a new State Form was contributed for Michigan. Version 19.06 of OpenTaxSolver has been posted for downloading.

This version clarifies where to enter Charity Donations on
the Federal 1040 form, by creating designated Charity lines.

For MacOS platforms -- a MacSetup command file was added for allowing
operation under the increased security restrictions of newer MacOS
versions such as Catalina, Big Sur, Monterey and beyond.

A new OTS update has been posted for downloading as version 18.08. The Fed-1040 PDF forms now display Dependent-Relationship column. On NJ State form, adjustments were made for eligibility of Homestead rebate Property Tax credit when over 65 or blind, and under the income threshold to file. Fixes were made to the New York State and 1040 Schedule-C Business Forms.

A new OTS update has been posted. Version 18.05. Added ability to specify Dependents information for Federal-1040 PDF form output. (Did not affect the calculations.) Several minor updates were made for several of the State Tax forms, including North Carolina, New York, and Virginia.

The updated version of Open Tax Solver (OTS) for the 2018 Tax Year has been
released and is now available to download from:

There were many changes in the tax laws this year, and there have been
continued improvements in the OTS programs. The present version, 16.03
contains added printouts for the US 1040, and fixes to the NY State tax
program. Starting with this version, an ability was added to maintain your
own markups in the resulting PDF printable forms. See OTS's "Data Input

The latest OTS update, 15.04, provides several improvements:
* The US-1040 now blanks unneeded zero entries, and properly resets any "various" date in Cap-Gains form.
* An optional ability was added to accept AMT Form 6251 entries for worksheet lines 8-27.
(Just add entries like, "AMTws27 xx", before the "L49" line, where xx would be value for the AMT worksheet line 27.)
* Further automated California CA540 Adjustments form. Provides more complete tax form fill-out.
* Fixed State abbreviation in Virginia taxes form.

Sourceforge's upload servers are finally operational again, and the latest update of OTS has been posted for downloading.

Version 15.03 (dated 2/14/2018) fixes the Fed1040 collectible gains value from being used before the input line. Note that this causes a line change between lines 12 and 39a. If you already started a Form from the prior release, you need to adjust the position of the Collectibles line. Or, better to just copy your entries to the new form.
Fixed missing fill-in of 1st SchedB Int+Divs, and comma issue in Sched-B PDF, as well as proper medical percentage in Sched-A line 3. Began addressing OH form size issues. More line-label improvements. Apartment + Middle initials now print on the PDF forms.

Have been unable to post updates to Sourceforge since Wednesday. ... Even the OTS web page is still frozen. Sourceforge moved its data center, and seems to be having trouble getting it going again. Despite claims that some services are up, developers still seem unable to check-in updates. Hopefully it will be working again soon ... Will keep trying throughout the weekend.

This year's version of OTS includes several improvements:
- Better PDF generator.
- More complete form-fillout.
- Improved GUI prompts and streamlined operation.

Current version is 15.02.

An update to OTS has been posted that fixes the PDF Autofillout of Form 8949 Longterm checkmark D/E, as well as the Autofillout of NJ State Line 29. An option was added to accept various-short" and "various-long" as entries to the capital gains buy-date, to more clealy record the case of securities accumulated over time.

An OTS update has been posed that fixes some Gui display display issues. This release bundles all prior updates together in cleaned up package.

A new OTS update has been posted that contains several minor fix-ups in the PDF Auto-Fill-Out programs. It also adds auto-fillout of the California Sched-CA "Adjustments" form. All the tax programs remained stable.

A new version of OTS has been posted (14.03). It contains a number of substantial improvements in time for this year's taxes. Auto-fillout was added for two more States - Massachusetts (MA) + North Carolina (NC).
Now all forms supported by OTS have the auto-fillout feature!

OTS's front panel and file-browser have been simplified for more intuitive and easier use. The quality and
robustness of PDF exports was improved. The State applications provide additional information about your tax bracket, rate, and percent of underpayment, if applicable.

An updated version of OpenTaxSolver (OTS) has been posted for download - version 14.02.

In this version, PDF Auto-Fillout capability was added for two more states: New York and New Jersey.
There were some minor cleanups and improvements in form comments.
The California auto-fillout now writes zeros in lines that require an entry even-if-zero.

Otherwise, all tax calculations remained stable and unchanged from the last version.... read more

A new GUI for OTS was posted for downloading. The new GUI, ots_gui2, is based on Gtk, which offers an improved look and feel. It is now set as the default user interface in the regular OTS distribution package for Linux and Microsoft users. The older GUI is still included in case there are any problems.
