Sourceware Redundancy

We have two identical servers: server2.sourceware.org and server3.sourceware.org. The former will be the primary sourceware.org after switchover. What of server3?

The current plan is to have server3 receive frequent rsync-d updates of the functional partitions of server2 (root and /sourceware1), so if we had to, we could in principle reboot server3 with the /sourceware2-root as the root partition, and let it take over. In practice it's bound to be not quite that simple, and for now we lack remote console access so this sort of nondefault boot cannot be safely triggered and then undone purely via remote ssh.

In addition, both machines carry snapshots of the old-sourceware's / and /sourceware1 directories on separate LVs. These will become read-only after transition.
