How redaction works

Redaction is the process of selectively deleting sensitive data. Your organization may identify, redact and replace such data with a solid bar. For example, a credit card number may be considered sensitive data.

How does redaction appear?

If sensitive data has been redacted, you will see a solid bar where the sensitive data was. Here’s an example Jira work item where a bank account number has been redacted from the description and department fields.

The solid bar can be deleted from your content if you don’t need to show that data was redacted.

What happens to the issue history

When sensitive data is redacted from fields in your Jira work item, it will also be redacted from the history.

There are some situations where the data cannot be redacted in the history. If this happens, the best way to ensure the sensitive data is completely removed is to clone the issue and delete the original.
