🌀 What’s really happening in .NET today? We’re not talking hype. This is hands-on insight from someone who just migrated a production project to .NET 8. We spoke with Yahor Halubchyk, a senior .NET engineer at Vention, to get a grounded take on current trends, migrations, and what’s worth paying attention to. ⚙️ .NET 8 has become the default. It’s stable, fast, and LTS-backed. Upgrading from earlier versions is usually a matter of days. As for .NET 9 — most teams are skipping it and waiting for 10, which promises smart memory handling and auto-optimizations for collections and performance. 🧱 Still on .NET Framework? Brace yourself. If your project’s on modern .NET (formerly Core), migration is straightforward. But if you're stuck on .NET Framework 4.8, you're likely looking at a full rewrite. The architecture is different, and most libraries just won’t work out of the box. 🧩 Third-party libraries are the real bottleneck. Yahor put it simply: “If you're on the standard Microsoft stack, migration is smooth. But if you’re using MongoDB, niche ORMs, or older open-source packages, expect to dig through source code and open GitHub issues.” 📉 Blazor and Razor? Still niche. They’re rarely used in production. React and Angular dominate the frontend. Blazor might work in edge cases, like when sensitive business logic has to stay server-side, but it’s not the go-to. 🤖 AI + .NET: not just buzz — it’s useful. GitHub Copilot struggles with complex logic. But GPT-4? Surprisingly solid. Yahor’s team uses it to generate SQL queries, unit tests, and advanced search logic, especially when given proper context. 🧠 .NET itself? It’s more than a language — it’s an engineering mindset. Think architecture, optimization, concurrency. The learning curve is steep, but so are the opportunities. As Yahor puts it: “If you have real experience, you can jump straight into a project and deliver. What I'm seeing more of in the Tech market.. Im seeing more and more engineering teams hiring software engineers with fullstack capability and hands-on experience with provisioning tools like Terraform 👀🛠️ It's no longer just about front-end polish or backend architecture, it's about engineers who can build features and stand up the infrastructure to support them 📈 Fullstack isn’t just JavaScript and Python or Java anymore - it’s CI/CD, cloud, infra-as-code with knowledge of AI/LLM's and a bit of security thrown in too😂 So it begs the question… 🤔 Is the specialised frontend or backend-only engineer becoming less common - or just less in demand? In a world where teams are leaner, and time-to-value matters more than ever, multi-skilled engineers are fast becoming the backbone of modern teams 🥸 But what are they called?.. I recently gave a talk about Agentic Development at AlmatyJS Light 7. Adding instruction files like AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md to the repository is a worthwhile way to improve development. These files help agents understand the project, how to run it, and what conventions to follow. Keeping the instructions short and structured is important. When they become too large, agents tend to follow them worse. Clear instructions reduce iteration cycles, lower costs, and improve the quality of the generated code. 🚨 Is DevOps Dying? A few years ago, “DevOps Engineer” was a golden ticket 🎟️ — high salaries, remote freedom, and endless demand. Fast forward to today: 🔻 DevOps salaries are down   🔻 Job postings have dropped   🔻 Remote roles are falling At first glance, it looks like the DevOps bubble has popped. 💡 What’s really happening? The title DevOps Engineer was always a bit messy.   One company wanted Terraform. Another needed CI/CD. Some had you putting out fires at 2 a.m. Now, that same core skill set is being absorbed into more focused roles: 👷‍♂️ Platform Engineers → Own Kubernetes and developer experience   ☁️ Cloud Engineers → Scale infra, manage costs   🛡️ SREs → Monitor uptime and production health   👨‍💻 Even Software Engineers → Deploy and pipeline their own code (just like me 😅) 👉 In fact, the most in-demand Kubernetes job in 2024 was for software engineers — not DevOps engineers. ✅ What I think: DevOps isn't a job title. It's a philosophy. A mindset that helps teams deliver software faster, safer, and more efficiently. The fastest hack to get promoted that Andrey Busargin mentioned yesterday at our team’s meeting really struck me. Because, as usual, it was very simple but absolutely true. You just need to start behaving for a period of time like the place where you want to be. I guess it’s kind of the same idea as wearing the clothes of what you want to become, but much more practical. And I’ve seen real examples of this. The thing is, you cannot become a senior if you only do a couple of senior tasks. Your whole mindset and your behaviour must be senior-like to prove that it’s not an accident. That it’s you, consistently, so everyone can see it. I’ve seen a lot of one-night butterflies who lived only on small inspiration but never survived more than a week trying to be someone they were not ready to be. If you want to be a team leader, you will have to take a lot of responsibility and a lot of initiative. It was always very easy to see who that person was, because they would literally take responsibility for small projects, for other people, and carry it fully. Are people supposed to take extra responsibility and take extra projects outside their scope? No. But they can if they want. Promotion will choose the ones who want it. If you want to be a senior in a technical position, it’s even easier. The mindset is being completely autonomous, bringing problems and decisions on your own. Not just getting a task and coming back with it completed, but creating the task yourself by seeing the problem. Are people supposed to do it? No. But they can if they want. Promotion will choose the ones who want it. Sure, new things can and will be learned in new positions as well. But approach and personality cannot be learned. They are based completely on a person’s own mindset and decisions. And that makes about 90% of all the success I’ve seen. #personalstory

In 2026, it primarily delivers results 💰 It's no longer about tests and pilots, but about productivity, costs and real return on investment. What will generate value? 🤖 AI agents - systems that independently perform complex tasks. In finance, IT or customer service, they can increase efficiency by several dozen percent. This isn't a chatbot, it's a digital collaborator. ☑️ AI assistants in operations - AI is reaching the front lines of business. In manufacturing, retail and healthcare, it supports real-time decisions, analyzes images, sound and text. It increasingly operates directly on devices, which means: ✔️ greater data security ✔️ lower cloud costs ✔️ faster implementations 🌱 AI + ESG – energy optimization, waste reduction, better process design. Technology is starting to support not only financial results but also accountability. 🔓 Open source and no-code – the barrier to entry is falling. Implementations are faster, costs are lower and non‑technical teams can create innovations. But with accessibility comes a growing need for oversight, ethics and risk control. AI in 2026 is not a question of "if," but "where will it have the greatest impact?"
