They all use different algorithms for ranking. They are quite proprietary about them. So it is quite likely that these results are not devious - they actually do rank themselves higher than the others and that ephili is on the right track that they design their site using some inside knowledge of their own ranking algorithms, probably knowledge they just pick up around the water cooler.
