Let's make one thing clear: in its current form, Java does have a lot of confusing features, but it also severely limits one's freedom to express oneself compared to (say) Common Lisp or Smalltalk. The next version of Javascript is everything Java should be (it has multiple dispatch, generators, optional typing , etc.) and I think Java has to keep up. In order to do that it needs some kind of closures (among other features, but this is the most urgent one) and it has to be in Java 7. Maybe I shouldn't worry and just wait for JS2 to be compiled to the JVM, but I like Java and would hate to see it die.
