1. Noun
A noun is a word used to name a person, place, thing, idea, or feeling. It forms the foundation of any sentence because it tells us who or what we are referring to.
Examples:
- Person: teacher, Rohan, doctor
- Place: school, Delhi, park
- Thing: book, mobile, car
- Idea/Feeling: honesty, happiness, anger
Nouns can appear in different forms such as singular or plural, common or proper, concrete or abstract, and countable or uncountable. They help give clarity and meaning to the sentences we create.
2. Pronoun
A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun to prevent repetition and make sentences flow more naturally. It helps us avoid repeating the same names or objects unnecessarily.
Examples:
he, she, it, they, you
Pronouns keep our sentences clear and smooth by standing in for nouns whenever needed.
3. Verb
A verb is a word that expresses an action, a state of being, or an occurrence. It tells us what the subject is doing or what condition it is in.
Examples:
run, write, is, grow, think
Verbs are essential to every sentence because they give movement and meaning to the subject.
4. Adjective
An adjective is a word that describes or gives more information about a noun or pronoun. It highlights qualities such as size, color, number, or nature.
Examples:
tall, red, three, honest, beautiful

5. Adverb
An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. It tells us how, when, where, or to what extent something happens.
Examples:
quickly, very, yesterday, nearby, almost
Adverbs help explain the manner or intensity of an action or description, adding depth and clarity to sentences.
6. Prepositions
Rules of prepositions are the general rules in grammar that help us to use prepositions more appropriately.
“A preposition is called a connector or linking word, which has a very close relationship with the noun, pronoun or adjective that follows it. Prepositions show position in space, movement, direction, etc.”
For example:
i) I sit on the bench. I am sitting on top of something/place.
‘On’ preposition is used to continue sitting on top of something/place.
ii) I sat on an elephant – On can be considered as a preposition.
iii) I have been reading in my room. I am reading a book in my room.

| Apart | This indicates that something is separated from another thing. For example: “She lived apart from me” can be written as “She lived away from me.” |
| At | This preposition is used to show the time when something happens. For example: “I am at your home. |
| Behind | This preposition indicates that something is behind or at the back of another thing. For example, we can say, “He came behind me in line.” |
| Besides | It is used in the sentence to show that one thing is beside another. For example: “He sat beside me.” |
| Between | This preposition shows the relationship between two things or people. For example: “Put the book between you and me.” |
| By | It shows the position of something next to or near another thing. For example, we can say, “I saw your house by my window.” |
| During | This preposition shows the period of something. It also expresses the cause of some results. For example, we can say, “What are you doing during the daytime?” |
| From | This preposition shows the direction of something from another thing or place. For example, we can say, “He came from his house.” |
| In | It shows the location of something in or on top of a surface. For example, we can say, “He is in bed.” |
7. Conjunction
A conjunction is a word that connects clauses, sentences, or other words. Conjunctions can be used alone or in groups of two. For example – and, but, or are used alone but neither/nor, either/or etc are used in pairs.

Subordinating Conjunction
As, because, since, if, though, although, that, before, after, till, until, as long as, when, where, why, etc are known as Subordinating Conjunction.

2. If she comes, I shall go.
3. I don’t know where he lives.
Subordinating Conjunctions are of Eight types:

8. Interjection
An interjection is a part of speech which is used to express the feeling, feeling of emotions, feeling of sadness, feeling of joy etc.
