1. Noun

A noun is a word used to name a person, place, thing, idea, or feeling. It forms the foundation of any sentence because it tells us who or what we are referring to.

Examples:

  • Person: teacher, Rohan, doctor
  • Place: school, Delhi, park
  • Thing: book, mobile, car
  • Idea/Feeling: honesty, happiness, anger

Nouns can appear in different forms such as singular or plural, common or proper, concrete or abstract, and countable or uncountable. They help give clarity and meaning to the sentences we create.

2. Pronoun

A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun to prevent repetition and make sentences flow more naturally. It helps us avoid repeating the same names or objects unnecessarily.

Examples:

he, she, it, they, you

Pronouns keep our sentences clear and smooth by standing in for nouns whenever needed.

3. Verb

A verb is a word that expresses an action, a state of being, or an occurrence. It tells us what the subject is doing or what condition it is in.

Examples:

run, write, is, grow, think

Verbs are essential to every sentence because they give movement and meaning to the subject.

4. Adjective

An adjective is a word that describes or gives more information about a noun or pronoun. It highlights qualities such as size, color, number, or nature.

Examples:

tall, red, three, honest, beautiful

Adjectives make our language richer by adding detail and helping us form a clearer picture of what we are talking about.Preposition

5. Adverb

An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. It tells us how, when, where, or to what extent something happens.

Examples:

quickly, very, yesterday, nearby, almost

Adverbs help explain the manner or intensity of an action or description, adding depth and clarity to sentences.

6. Prepositions

Rules of prepositions are the general rules in grammar that help us to use prepositions more appropriately.

“A preposition is called a connector or linking word, which has a very close relationship with the noun, pronoun or adjective that follows it. Prepositions show position in space, movement, direction, etc.”

For example:

i) I sit on the bench. I am sitting on top of something/place.

‘On’ preposition is used to continue sitting on top of something/place.

ii) I sat on an elephant – On can be considered as a preposition.

iii) I have been reading in my room. I am reading a book in my room.
