I'm currently in my third year of pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Application (BCA) at Graphic Era Deemed to be University in Dehradun. If I were to sum up my experience so far, I'd say it's been a vibrant and enriching journey—but only if you're prepared for the costs that come with it.
Freshman Year
Starting out as a freshman, everything felt new and a bit overwhelming. However, settling in was easier than I expected. The faculty is pretty decent—not outstanding, but definitely supportive enough. The coursework is manageable, and my peers have generally been friendly and open. Overall, it didn't take long for me to feel at home here.
Extracurricular Activities and Professional Development
One of the things I genuinely appreciate about Graphic Era is its vibrant extracurricular scene. Whether you’re into tech, literature, or business, there’s something for everyone. Clubs like ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), Papertech (for the tech geeks), Kavyanjali (for those who love the arts), and TBI (Technology Business Incubator) are great platforms for building skills and meeting like-minded people. These clubs aren't just for fun—they’re great for networking and can be super helpful down the road when you're looking for a job.
There are also in-campus internships that give you a taste of what professional life is like before you even graduate. As a third-year student, I'm currently prepping for placement season, with companies like Accenture and LTI Mindtree scheduled to visit. It feels good to know the university has strong ties with the industry, which opens up a lot of doors for us.
Campus Life
The campus itself is a bit of a gem. It's full of greenery, with lots of cozy spots to hang out or get some peace. And let’s talk about food—there are multiple canteens, and each has its own vibe and flavor. Whether you need a quick bite between classes or a place to chill with friends, the campus has you covered. The facilities are well-maintained, adding to the overall positive environment for both studying and unwinding.
Festivals and Competitions
One of the highlights of life at Graphic Era is definitely Grafest, our annual fest. It's a three-day celebration where A-list celebrities like Badshah, Ayushmann Khurrana, Divine, and Urvashi Rautela have performed. It’s a great break from academics and a chance to let loose. This year, they even started a hackathon called Graph-e-thon, which was a fantastic opportunity for tech enthusiasts to shine and show off their skills.
Placements and Career Prospects
Now, let’s get real about placements—the part that every student is most anxious about. Despite the current challenges in the global economy and the competitive tech job market, Graphic Era has still managed to attract a variety of companies for campus recruitment. That said, landing a good job isn't guaranteed. It’s more about your own skills, preparation, and how well you perform. The university gives you the platform, but it’s up to you to make the most of it.
Financial Consideration
And now, the elephant in the room: finances. I won’t sugarcoat it—studying at Graphic Era is a bit pricey. It’s a great place if you have a solid financial backup or if you’re willing to invest heavily in your education. The facilities, opportunities, and overall experience can justify the cost for many, but it's important to weigh these against your financial situation before making a decision.
