Hey everyone,
NIMCET is an all-India NIT MCA Common Entrance Test conducted by the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) for admission to their Master of Computer Application (MCA) programs. I first learned about this exam in my 2nd year of BCA. It had always been my dream to get into prestigious institutions like IITs and NITs. After failing the JEE examination, I saw NIMCET as my next big opportunity to achieve that goal.
I started preparing for NIMCET by researching various coaching options. I found out that JMA in Indore is considered one of the best coaching centers for MCA entrance exams. Since I was already pursuing my BCA in Indore, this seemed like an ideal choice. However, the fees for JMA were beyond my reach.
Undeterred, I decided to prepare on my own, leveraging my strong math skills and previous JEE preparation. I enrolled in an online coaching program at a very nominal fee. Thus began my journey of 1.5 years of dedicated preparation. My goal from day one was to get into NIT Trichy, the best NIT for MCA.
Balancing my BCA studies with NIMCET preparation was challenging. I faced many ups and downs, but I remained focused. On the day of the exam, I felt confident due to my extensive preparation and numerous mock tests. However, during the exam, I panicked and couldn't perform as well as I had hoped. My strategy fell apart, and I felt all my hard work was in vain.
For days after the exam, I couldn't sleep properly, replaying my mistakes over and over. I knew I wouldn't get my dream college. When the results were announced, my All India Rank (AIR) was 521, and I got into NIT Raipur. Initially, I was reluctant to join, feeling like a failure. But my family and friends encouraged me, reminding me that it was still an NIT.
Now, looking back at my preparation journey, I realize it was all worth it. Although I didn't get my dream college, the preparation process taught me valuable lessons and habits that will stay with me for life. As Jeetu Bhaiya from Kota Factory rightly said, "Jeet ki Taiyari Nhi, Taiyari Hi jeet hai." This dialogue resonates with me deeply. I am happy and content with where I am now.
My Tips for the NIMCET Exam:
- Understand the exam syllabus, marks weightage, and pattern.
- Use RD Sharma and Self Scorer for Mathematics, RS Aggarwal for Logical Reasoning. For Computer and English, rely on PYQs and online resources.
- Maintain a daily routine, be consistent, and enjoy the journey.
- Solve books at least twice and take mock tests after covering the syllabus.
- Stay calm and quick during the exam, as exam temperament matters.
All the Best!
