My MHT-CET 2023 Exam Experience: Balancing Work and Study

Last Updated : 15 Apr, 2026

I appeared for MHT-CET in 2023 for both PCM and PCB groups. I scored around 85 percentile in PCM and around 73 percentile in PCB. In this post, I would like to share my real preparation journey, which was quite different from most students.

Preparation Strategy

After my HSC exams, most students were enjoying their vacations. However, my situation was different.

  • I went to Silvassa to work in a company (Precision Wire India Limited) for 2–3 months.
  • My goal was to earn money to support my further education.
  • Due to work, I could not study for long hours.

I followed a simple strategy:

  • Studied around 2 hours daily at night after work
  • Focused mainly on 11th and 12th syllabus
  • Stayed consistent instead of studying for long hours

Resources Used

My preparation was completely based on self-study.

  • Online platforms like Google and YouTube
  • Previous Year Questions (PYQs)
  • State board syllabus

I did not join any coaching classes.

Subject-wise Experience

Physics: Moderate to difficult, required conceptual understanding

Mathematics: Difficult, needed regular practice

Chemistry: Easier for me due to my personal interest in the subject

Initially, I was planning to pursue B.Sc Chemistry, but my CET score changed my direction.

Challenges Faced

Managing work and study together

Limited study time (only 2 hours daily)

Physical tiredness after working hours

Despite these challenges, I remained consistent with my preparation.

Exam Day Experience

I selected Dhule as my exam center

My exam was conducted at SVKM College, Dhule

PCM and PCB exams were held on different days

I was slightly nervous but managed my time properly during the exam.

Result and Outcome

Result was declared early in the morning, which was unexpected

After checking my result, I felt emotional and shared it with my family and friends

Scoring 85 percentile in PCM helped me secure admission in engineering through TFWS category, which significantly reduced my financial burden.

Key Learnings

Consistency is more important than long study hours

Even with limited time, focused study can give good results

Hard situations can still lead to success with determination

Advice to Juniors

Do not focus only on studying 10+ hours; even 2 hours of consistent study is effective

Focus on basics of 11th and 12th syllabus

Solve previous year questions regularly

Stay calm and confident during preparation and exam
