Animated GIFs are a simple way to add movement and visual interest to your PowerPoint slides. PowerPoint supports animated GIFs natively, and they play automatically during the slideshow.
Method 1: Insert a GIF from Your Computer
Step 1: Go to the slide where you want the GIF.
Step 2: On the Insert tab, click Pictures.
Step 3: Select This Device (Windows) or Picture from File (Mac).
Step 4: Browse to your .gif file, select it, and click Insert.
The GIF will appear on the slide. It looks static while editing but animates in Slide Show view.
Method 2: Drag and Drop
Step 1: Open File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).
Step 2: Locate the GIF file.
Step 3: Drag and drop it directly onto the PowerPoint slide.
Method 3: Insert from Online
Step 1: Go to the Insert tab → Pictures → Online Pictures.
Step 2: Search for a GIF (you can add the word “GIF” to your search, e.g., “loading GIF”).
Step 3: Select the GIF and click Insert.
How to Play the GIF
- Animated GIFs do not play in Normal (editing) view.
- To see the animation, start the slideshow:
- Press F5 (from the beginning), or
- Press Shift + F5 (from the current slide).
The GIF will play and loop automatically when the slide appears.
