The race is on to find Abel before Layla can turn him into one of her twisted creatures. But when a sword keeps appearing and disappearing in Flint's room, one that bears strange markings on it and hints at a secret buried deep in her past, Flint's already chaotic life is turned upside down. Now not only must she find a way to save Abel, but everything she thought she knew of her world and her life is about to change forever...

(RabidReads.com)It’s really hard to review a second book in a series without spoilers-especially when the first book ended with such a big cliffhanger. Do I talk around what happened that was the catalyst for just about everything that happens in this second one? It’s a slippery slope for sure. So if you have any thoughts about reading the first book and haven’t already, I will say that you really shouldn’t read this review. Oh, and don’t read the blurb either! However, I will try and minimize any spoilerish aspects if I can.

The story picks up just minutes after the first book ends-always good when a cliffhanger is involved. Flint has been injured and has been taken by the Queen of the Hive. The Hive is made up of minions that have been made into grotesque insect like humanoids by the Queen. Abel has disappeared, and Cain is frantically trying to find Flint. And so this story continues.

Whereas the first book had everyone hunting the Queen with no knowledge of who she is or where she is hiding, this one is about finding her-after she has been unmasked. It’s also about Flint’s journey to discovery of what and who she really is in this paranormal world. If she thought Carnival Diabolique(her new home)was strange, it’s nothing to what her life is becoming. By her side is Cain, her love and fiercest protector. He’s not exactly all human, but then neither is she. And they are not the same supernatural character. Flint’s dad has done a big change as well-he, of course, is still human, but he’s having an extremely hard time with Flint and her new life-to the point that I was really unhappy with him at times, but then it was pretty realistic if this were really happening. But it’s Abel that has the hardest time in this book, and because he was a favorite character for me from the beginning, this part of the read was extremely intense and dark for me, and really would be for any reader.

Paranormal aspects of this read were well executed by the author, and managed to surprise me at times with the unique world building. As before, the characters were all well rounded and well written, nothing cookie cutter here. As far as pacing, it was a page turner from start to finish, and an extremely fast read.

The first book was definitely for young adults, but I would put this one more in the adult camp, mainly due to the dark subject matter and the brutal violence involved. Brutal being the operative word here. It also jumps into sexual scene territory-more explicit than any young adult sexual scene I have ever read. So yeah, not for young teens this time around. I am not sure when the next book is being released, but I will be checking often to see when it comes out-because these books are just that good!

Second book syndrome does not exist with this series. Just as good as the first book, and only left me wanting more!

This was another great book in the Tempted series. Abel was kidnapped by his mother, who we found out was the Hive Queen, and she also tried to take Flint. She bit Flint and ended up unlocking Flint's power. Flint always thought she was human but she is actually so much more and her mother did everything she could to keep the powers locked away. With everything that happened at Prom night, Flint ended up in a coma for about a week and now her grandmother who is in the Order is doing everything she can to keep her safe. Everyone is doing everything they possibly can to find and save Abel before Layla can turn him into a true monster.

Flint always thought she was human but she is definitely only part human. She's come to realize that Cain and all her friends are "monsters" but now she has to come to grips with what she is. She's trying to learn her powers and realize all she can do. She misses Abel and is doing everything she can to find him and help the others. Her and Cain are getting closer and closer.

Cain loves Flint and wants to be with her but he doesn't want to mate with her for his own benefits. He wants to give her time to know that she wants to be with him. He's exhausted from all the hunting and trying to find his brother. He's hurt and doesn't understand how his own mother could do such a thing and take his brother.

Abel has just found out that the world he knew wasn't real. His father is a demon and his mother is the Hive Queen. Also, she took him and she's been torturing him nonstop. He feels so very alone and is just losing hope.

Definitely worth reading and ready to read the final book in this series.

This is the second book in a beautiful YA series (first was "Forbidden"), long awaited by me and devoured in a day. I really like Flint, she is young but already a strong personality, has what it takes and at the same time is vulnerable and needs love and sympathy as all teenagers do - but not whinily so. She has a lot to endure in this part, and her friend Adam goes through even more, so it's not a book for very sensitive teenagers but for grown-ups it's just perfect.

I especially loved the figure of Carlito - how Selene writes about him, you can truly picture him in your mind, very exotic, very cool, he's just great. Thanks for including him and his story, Ms Charles!

The end of the book - now, that's a cliffhanger that may torture some (even I had to remember to breath deeply when putting it down) but I can recommend to read the Night Series by RS Black (her pen name for dark and grown-up fantasy) which is already completed and will help you over the worst fear as this story plays a small part there. And it's the perfect read to tie you over until the next Tempted book comes out (hopefully end of this year).

Being the second in the series, I obviously highly recommend reading Forbidden before this book as it will introduce you to the characters.
The book takes place right away minutes after where the first book finished.

Now I am not one to post spoilers, so that is being left out.
Now i have to say, I loved the first book and was incredibly excited for this one, and it blew my expectations. Twists and surprises bring you further into the complexity of this world and its characters. You learn more and more about Flint & Cain, making you love them ore and more and feel deeper for what they have to go through.
Selene Charles makes the characters we learned to love the first time, love even more..and you are rewarded with this love by a story that leaves you wondering what will happen next.

If you like a story that has a bit of romance, some mystery, betrayal and leaves you wanting more: that is what you get.
Read it, love it, and know you'll be happy with your purchase of a great book.

Catch it in full at ♀ Bookworm.

Okay, be ready to pick off right where it left off. A scary BOOM! and a lot of revelations will come to light within this volume. Flint is more than human. Flint is fae. So far, we don't know what type, but like every fae, she's connected to nature on every level of her being. While Flint transforms herself into a bigger character, we have Abel, kidnapped and tempted into opening a box while transforming fully into a Bezerker (damn you iPhone not respecting what I want to write. No wonder it always takes too long to write anything on here!!). We have a bond being formed. Or maybe two. We have parents in fear. And a grandmother with death on her heels.

I'm to think that this paragraph is enough of an explanation for what's going on within this volume, but there's so much more. So much more at stake that we, readers, can't see it just yet.

4 stars.

This book was much improved from its predecessor Forbidden. It is the second book in the tempted series and it starts off pretty much right where Forbidden ended.

Where the first book took nearly 3/4 of the book for me to get into, I found myself drawn into this world almost immediately. You start to get a better feel for the exceptional girl Flint is, and the struggles that she has faced and is yet to face.

I feel like this story was more of a build up to what book three will bring. In book one Forbidden, you have your typical character development that is found in the beginning of all series with your gnarly cliff hanger at he end. In book 2 Reckless, its more about Flints developing character in the supernatural world. You still get your cliff hanger ending but it wasn't as jaw dropping as the first one. I am excited to see where the story will go from here though.

Another reason to not read series that are not finished!!

Can flint save Abel? There are so many things going on in this series Chatswood normally overwhelm a storyline but each character has a distinct personality to the point that you fall in love, feel empathy for, and of course you want to turn into one of the "monsters" and make the queen pay for what she has done to Abel. His own mother did this, but could she have actually done the right thing? Why are the four horsemen of the apocalypse on earth and is there any connection to the facts that the main characters are named after these biblical names of the first man and brothers that God created? Can not wait for the next in the series!!

How can a book series get better and better.. well let Selene Charles write that book. I would like to say that I absolutely can not wait for the 3rd book to come out. I was left with the most chocking cliffhanger. Book (#2) to me was a chance to understand better each character and what abilities they posses. It also gave me enough information for me to want more out of Flint. My only complain was that I felt that for a good part of the book Flint insecurity was holding the character back. She was such a strong person on the first book and then all of the sodden she was this insecure and timid person. Did I love the book : yes, Was the action great : absolutely . But please make Flint the secure strong character from the first book and give us more of who she is and her background.

This was an epic follow up to Forbidden! The world created by Charles was brilliant, immediately gripping me with its other series Crimson Night. This slight spin-off to the CN series made me so excited, because I love the magic in the circus and the dark, twisted way she's made the stereotypical 'cirus' more appealing to the curious reader. I absolutely loved the action, suspense and the temptation between- well, I won't say lol but I will say that the stakes are raised and I totally bought the third book. I need to know what happened after that cliffhanger.

Exciting and Moving

This is the second installment to the series. There was lots revealed about Flint. She's turned into quite the heroine character. Cain continues to play a major role in her life. The storyline was good in that it provided answers, was full of suspense, and adventure. New characters are also brought into the fold...very interesting characters. I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading this novel and am looking forward to the next installment.

A book that will tempt you to carry on reading

So I finally got some of my questions from the first book answered in Reckless. It's still an enjoyable read and I liked the way Cain & Flint's relationship is finally developing.
I still have some unanswered questions, but luckily there is a third book already out so I'm off to read to see what happens with Flint, Cain, Abel, Janet & Rhiannon.

Selene continues to amaze

This story will grab the reader and take them on a journey. It is so hard to put down, once you start. I highly recommend reading the night series as well. Although completely separate, these stories are happening somewhat concurrently. It's interesting to get a bit fuller picture.

Mother f'er! Ehhh did she have to be the queen?!?! I didn't see that coming at all and what she is doing is completely wrong. I feel so bad for Janet and Able and all the friends/family that are watching the horror, unable to stop it.

Do we really have to wait until the fall to see what happens next?!

Good all in all

I really liked this book but I felt there was too much going on all at the same time. Cain with his need for flint and his desire to stay away his anger issues. Flint and her change and her need to be good but don't know if that's really what she is. Ri and her issue with everyone. Adam and even one of the twins love life.

This book is the second in the series. Book one is a must read first.

The book is as exciting and captivating as the first. I love reading books that make me feel as though i am part of the action albeit in the background.

We get to spend more time within the carnival grounds and we attend the prom at the school. It is an explosive story. You will not want to put it down.

Great fantasy

Great continuation of series: Flint is now fully immersed in the monster world. Unusual supernatural element, beserkers, hive, fae, combined with the circus. Looking forward to the final book.
