Pluribus

This show was so (overly) hyped! I "WAS"so excited and curious to watch it! Started off "ok" and then just absolute boredom, a snoozefest! I even tried to push through more episodes thinking "oh, it will get better" but, it has been the complete opposite of better! The idea of the show had potential and was very different, but definitely lacks...well it lacks in everything!

HOW did it receive such HIGH ratings????????

A decent show with an interesting premise, but the lead's constant anger gets exhausting fast. Three episodes in, the pacing feels slow and repetitive, which makes her intensity feel even more overwhelming.

Still, the hive-mind concept is intriguing, and despite the flaws, there's enough mystery and potential to keep me curious about where the story might go next.

I respect Vince Gilligan. He was involved in The X-Files and was largely responsible for the masterpiece that is Breaking Bad. It's an impressive resume. That's why I was eager to see his new work, Pluribus. At the time of writing this review, three episodes have been released by Apple. I've seen all three, but I don't know if I can bear to watch another.

The main character is unbearable. Okay, I understand that a whole build up is being prepared, but I think it's gone too far. That bad mood isn't funny anymore. It's pathological. What should seem like nonconformity is nothing more than some kind of illness.

The character doesn't care about anyone, does whatever she wants because she's extremely egocentric. It's painful to see someone like that, because it makes you want to see the Unity (yeah, I watched Rick and Morty, as well) get rid of her quickly.

I'll make an effort and I'll try to watch the fourth episode, but definitely, Vince Gilligan is mistaken in his handling of the character. I hope I'm wrong.

There are many issues with modern TV but the one defining this show is the corporations that get handed a tight script and decide to turn it into 2 or 3 seasons.

We've seen this with The Boys, Squid Game, Stranger Things and House of the Dragon. These were supposed to be this generations' greats but they've all become pointless filler.

Take a Vince Gilligan 'slow burn' story and apply this problem to it... you end up with a show that can be summed up as 'woman does chores for 45 minutes"

There are no interesting characters, locations, sci-fi elements, profound emotional beats or original moral questions. Not funny enough to be a comedy, not intriguing enough to be a sci-fi, not mysterious enough to be a thriller. Not even enough characters to be a drama!

Despite an interesting premise and a strong performance from the lead character, I can't see how this show can go on for long without becoming repetitive. The first two episodes already moves at a snails pace without anything of substance happening. Add to that a weak performance by the supporting cast, the majority of which plays the same character, I fear this show is off to a rough start but with Vince at the helm I'm still holding out hope that he might surprise me and turn this into another hit.
