At its meeting on 17 September, the ARIN Advisory Council advanced two items in the Policy Development Process. ARIN-2025-3: Change Section 9 Out Of Region Use Minimum Criteria was advanced to Recommended Draft Policy status, and ARIN-prop-353: Define Out Of Region Use was advanced to Draft Policy status. The ARIN 58 Fellows completed their second virtual session this week: an introduction to the ARIN Policy Development Process from ARIN's Policy Analyst, and a discussion of why ARIN meetings matter with ARIN's Advisory Council Chair. The PDP is the structured, community-driven process through which Internet number resource policies are proposed, discussed, and adopted in the ARIN region. Yesterday’s session helped shift this from something Fellows had read about to something they genuinely understand how and when to take part in. The ARIN Community Grant Program is now in its eight year, and we're proud to announce the 2026 recipients of this funding for projects that strengthen the Internet and contribute positively to the Internet community in the ARIN region. Virginia Tech | US$17,350 Their team has built a 14-year archive of RPKI repository data covering all five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), roughly 3.9 billion object observations. Their research shows the RIRs operate very differently under the same RFCs. This grant turns that archive into a public, weekly-refreshed RPKI Operational Health Dashboard, giving the community a shared place to track these metrics. Dominica State College | US$20,000 DSC is launching a student-led Youth Internet Governance Lab. Students in computer science, telecommunications, engineering, education, and law will use real campus connectivity challenges to map coverage, build an IPv6 readiness checklist, create RPKI learning materials, and write policy briefs. The work will culminate in a 2027 Youth Internet Governance Forum and an open toolkit other Caribbean colleges can adapt. The ARIN 58 Fellows had their first virtual session together this week. Session 1 brought the full cohort together for a welcome and program overview — introductions, a look at the road ahead, and the beginning of what will be five weeks of focused preparation for participating at ARIN 58 in Miami or online. Tomorrow, ARIN Chief Experience Officer John Sweeting takes the stage at ABQNOG in Albuquerque to deliver another edition of his "Why IPv6, Why Now?" presentation on the operational and business case for deployment. This isn't a protocol deep dive. It's a look at the operational and economic case for IPv6 — address scarcity, CGNAT growth, dual-stack operational debt, and what delaying adoption actually costs a network over time. Attendees will walk away with language they can use to make the business case for transition to their own leadership and stakeholders. The session runs 11:50 AM-12:20 PM MT, part of a free, full-day event at the Greater Albuquerque Association of Realtors Building.
