In our work on the four styles of leadership, we named the four capacities every leader draws on. Most people have one or two styles that come naturally, and don't realize they need to flex into another depending on the moment. The range you have is how many styles you can lead from quickly and accurately when the moment calls for it, not eventually, with time to think it through. Anyone can lead from any of the four with enough reflection. Range is what's available to you without that reflection, under real conditions.
