Bioconductor
Software Development
Global open source, open development software in R for genomics
About us
**Upcoming Conferences**: - BioC 2026 (Aug 10-12, Seattle) - BioCAsia (Nov 19-20, Melbourne) The Bioconductor project develops and supports free open-source software for the rigorous and reproducible analysis of biological data, focusing on R and statistical methods. We foster a diverse, collaborative, and welcoming community of developers and data scientists. Founded in 2001, Bioconductor is an open-source software project widely used in bioinformatics and biomedical research. It hosts over 2,000 R packages contributed by over 1,000 developers, with over 40 million downloads per year. Bioconductor has been cited in more than 60,000 scientific publications. Bioconductor operates with two releases each year and has an active user community. It is also available as Docker images. The project is overseen by a Core team based primarily in Boston, with members from US and international institutions. Our Community and Technical Advisory Boards, along with various Committees and Working Groups, are largely composed of dedicated volunteers who support our mission and ensure long-term viability. #Bioinformatics #OpenSource #BioconductorCommunity #RStats #GBCC2025 #EuroBioC2025

🧬 Earlier this year, members of the Bioconductor community gathered on San Servolo Island, Italy, for a hackathon focused on spatial omics and bioimaging. Researchers and developers from across Europe and the USA spent three days working on challenges related to spatial data infrastructure, interoperability, image analysis, visualisation, differential expression, and foundation models. The event resulted in new code, documentation, and a collaborative preprint that will help strengthen spatial omics support across the Bioconductor ecosystem. 📖 Learn more about the hackathon and its outcomes on the Bioconductor blog: https://lnkd.in/euf7jcSs #Bioconductor #SpatialOmics

🧬 Upcoming Bioconductor Developers' Forum 📅 June 25, 2026 🕓 4 PM UTC 🎤 Szabolcs Horvát Topic: igraph: Complex network analysis across multiple programming languages As Bioconductor continues to explore interoperability and accessibility, this session will highlight how the igraph project has successfully maintained multiple user-facing interfaces while supporting a common computational backend. The discussion will offer valuable insights into designing software that meets users where they are, regardless of their preferred tools or programming environment. 👉 Register to attend: https://lnkd.in/eyRgtGtC #Bioconductor

📢 Introducing the Bioconductor Package Maintainer Validation System Bioconductor package maintenance doesn't end at submission. Keeping maintainer contact information current is essential for supporting users, responding to build issues, and ensuring packages remain actively maintained. To help with this, Bioconductor has launched a new validation system that: ✅ Verifies maintainer email addresses remain active and reachable ✅ Supports annual acknowledgement of current Bioconductor policies, procedures, and Code of Conduct ✅ Provides access to maintainer information through the BiocMaintainerApp This is an important step toward strengthening package stewardship, improving communication, and supporting the long-term sustainability of the Bioconductor ecosystem. 📖 Read more: https://lnkd.in/e3YB9QZA #Bioconductor #Bioinformatics

📢 New package submissions to Bioconductor now have a new home. The previous Single Package Builder (SPB) submission process has been replaced with a new system powered by GitHub Actions and R-universe, providing a more automated, reproducible, and streamlined review experience for package authors. Furthermore, the submission process for packages has been updated. New submissions should now be made through BiocContributions. The previous submission location has been frozen and will no longer accept new submissions. The new process also makes it easier for maintainers to reproduce build reports and test packages before submission using the R-universe infrastructure. 📖 Read more: https://lnkd.in/en8EN3XY #Bioconductor
