"My parents asked me what I do for work, and I told them it's the same thing I do for family and friends, except I get paid for it." That's how Mireya Garcia describes her role as an Aetna Community Health Worker. Through in-home and hospital visits, Mireya supports Medicare Advantage members facing challenges that can affect their health and wellbeing, including transportation, housing security and access to nutritious food. She takes the time to understand what's affecting a member's day-to-day life and helps connect them with solutions. When one member could no longer afford her diabetes medication and later lost air conditioning during extreme summer heat, Mireya worked with providers, community organizations and support programs to help identify a more affordable medication and coordinate repairs. A run around the river became something much bigger. After seeing volunteers support runners with disabilities at the Boston Marathon, Aetna, a CVS Health Company's Lauren Rutzen signed up with Achilles International Boston. Since then, she's helped athletes train for long-distance races while building friendships, creating more inclusive experiences and finding a deeper sense of purpose along the way. "Every time I walk back from Achilles, I'm extra happy." Volunteering reminds her that she's part of something bigger. It's also shaped how she approaches communication, empathy and connection in her work and beyond. Many health conditions are defined by symptoms. Yet symptoms do not always tell the full story. Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), formerly known as PCOS, affects approximately 1 in 10 women in the United States, yet many remain undiagnosed. Students at Orchards Elementary have a new place to play. Seattle Reign FC defender Jordyn Bugg recently joined CVS Health, RAVE Foundation and students to celebrate the opening of a redeveloped mini soccer pitch in Vancouver, Washington. The new field expands access to a dedicated place for play and will support future youth wellness programming in the community. This project is the latest milestone in CVS Health's multi-year commitment to revitalize soccer spaces and make wellness, and connection more accessible for students and families. For 20 years, Project Health has helped make preventive care more accessible in communities across the country. That work remains as important as ever. New survey findings show nearly one in four U.S. adults have delayed speaking with a health professional about a health concern due to barriers related to access, cost or availability. One-third were unaware that community screening programs even exist. Since 2006, Project Health has: ❤️ Provided more than 6 million free preventive health screenings 👥 Reached 1.8 million people 📍 Hosted nearly 20,000 screening events across the U.S. and Puerto Rico As Project Health marks its 20th anniversary, these findings underscore the continued need for convenient, community-based preventive health services that help people better understand and manage their health.
