Just read McKinsey's 2026 Global Banking Review and I can't stop thinking about it. Banks just had a record year. $1.3 trillion in profit. Still the most profitable industry on the planet. And investors basically shrugged. Being a headhunter in the space, this is the kind of thing that really sticks with me. When a sector prints numbers like that and the market still won't pay up for it, that's the market telling you it doesn't believe the good times are built to last. And honestly, a lot of that comes back to people. Look at what the report lays out. Fintechs are growing about four times faster than banks. Neobanks like Revolut and Nubank are serving hundreds of millions of customers with a fraction of the headcount. AI is quietly walking off with the deposits and the loyalty banks always assumed were locked in. And younger clients? A lot of them trust the new players more than the bank their parents used. The thing that used to save banks was time. Their best customers moved slowly, so they could too. The report makes the case that's over. AI is being picked up faster than any technology we've ever seen, and the head start is just gone. So here's what I keep coming back to. The winners here won't be the biggest names. They'll be the ones who can move fast without breaking the trust that makes them a bank in the first place. And that completely changes who they need in the building. I'm already seeing more demand for people who live between the old world and the new one. People who get risk and regulation but can also ship something quickly and think like a builder. Smaller teams that punch above their weight. People who see AI as a tool, not a threat. If you're building a team or thinking about your next move in this space, that's the shift I'd be watching. Curious what your thoughts are.
