When a devastating fire struck the nearly 100-year-old Rawlins County Junior - Senior High School in Atwood, Kansas, the building and resources faced severe damage – eventually resulting in the facility being demolished. To help the district rebuild and restore its library collection, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded a $20,000 Beyond Words disaster relief grant to Rawlins County Unified School District. “Since the fire in June 2023, our students have relied on alternative methods to access reading materials,” shared Eric Stoddard, Rawlins County Unified School District #105 Superintendent. “This grant will allow us to restore vital resources and provide our students with easier and more consistent access to the books and learning materials they need to be successful.” In recognition of #InternationalDayofEducation, we’re spotlighting how DG focuses on advancing access to literacy and learning. On Monday, January 19, we pause to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader whose vision of service continues to inspire generations.
