For fuel buyers, the question is practical. Will product be available at the local terminal when trucks need it? The November Energy edition of DTN Markets in Motion examines the pressures shaping that answer, from refinery maintenance and regional supply constraints to policy uncertainty and winter weather. Read this month’s newsletter for DTN’s analysis of diesel, jet fuel, and gasoline markets, plus the developments fuel buyers and distributors should watch heading into winter. Can bad weather dampen voter turnout? Glen Krutz, a political science professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, discusses with Renny Vandewege, DTN’s GM for Weather and Climate Intelligence, what research shows about weather’s influence on voting and why even a small shift can matter in a close race. Behind every weather record, there are people who keep the measurements going — and people who put them to use. At 1,925 metres above sea level on Riederalp in the Swiss Alps, a weather station has been collecting observations since autumn 2008. Near the Great Aletsch Glacier, those measurements support a close connection between weather, nature conservation and environmental education. For our DTN “People Behind the Measurements” series, I spoke with Maurus Bamert, Head of the Pro Natura Centre Aletsch, about how these observations are used. Temperature, precipitation and wind data help document local conditions. They also help visitors understand the conditions Alpine plants and wildlife face throughout the year. One part of our conversation stayed with me: walking towards the glacier becomes a journey through a changing landscape. Terrain exposed more recently has had less time to be colonised by vegetation. Weather observations add valuable context to what we can see on the ground. And Maurus’ favourite weather? Thick fog moving through the Swiss stone pines and larches of the Aletsch Forest. Maintaining a weather station takes technical work, continuity and local cooperation. Seeing how its observations support education and conservation gives that work a very tangible purpose. Thank you to Maurus for sharing his perspective, and Aletsch Arena AG for the landscape photographs. Biofuel producers need more detail on their crop-based feedstocks, but gathering it doesn’t have to require a new process for growers and elevators. DTN and Veriflux joined forces to create Field Origin, a field-to-fuel compliance and traceability solution that connects existing field-level data with feedstock tracking and reporting. By combining field-level intelligence with chain-of-custody and mass-balance accounting, Field Origin streamlines documentation for renewable fuel programs such as LCFS and 45Z, supports audit readiness, and provides flexibility as requirements evolve. https://bit.ly/4imfThj

Time is an economic variable. Delaying a pricing decision has different consequences than delaying a routine administrative task. The same applies to an allocation change, a customer commitment, or the physical movement of fuel. That distinction should shape where we invest in efficiency. Where are people waiting for information? Where does a decision get held up before someone can act? And what does that delay mean for the business? In my latest article, I explore why efficiency deserves a place in the margin conversation. https://dtn.link/xcrjt4c4 Where do you see the costliest delays in fuel operations?

Weather doesn’t impact every part of Texas the same way. For Texas Department of Transportation, managing risk across 25 districts requires more than a general forecast. Snow, ice, freezing rain and blowing conditions can affect roadways and operations differently across the state. TxDOT implemented DTN Risk Communicator for combined district-level weather intelligence, direct access to DTN's professional meteorologists, and Emergency Operations Center support during major events. The result: greater confidence, faster decisions and more efficient resource deployment when conditions change. See how TxDOT strengthened weather readiness statewide: https://bit.ly/4e676z5
