This is what Changing the Story looks like. 📚🌍 Our second annual Changing the Story Festival: Inclusion for Success brought HBG employees, authors, advocates, and publishing professionals together for a day of conversation, connection, learning, and action—all centered on the people, perspectives, and ideas helping move publishing forward. From who gets to tell the story and creating pathways into publishing to LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion, the freedom to read, and neurodivergence as a catalyst for creativity, the day reflected what Inclusion for Success means to us. Because Changing the Story is more than the name of our festival—it’s one of HBG’s core business pillars. Inclusion is central to how we publish better, reach more readers, create opportunity, and build a stronger industry. Thank you to our incredible speakers, partners, colleagues, Employee Resource Groups, Changing the Story Advisory Board, and everyone who helped bring the day to life. And thank you to Eat Offbeat and DJ Soph Thee Sage for helping us gather, celebrate, and close out the festival together. 💛 The festival may last one day, but the work of Changing the Story continues all year long. Press play for a look back. 🎥✨ #ChangingTheStory #InclusionForSuccess #HachetteBookGroup #Publishing #DiversityInPublishing

Opening Our Doors to the Next Generation of Latinx Storytellers How does a story go from an idea on the page to a book in a reader’s hands? Hachette Book Group recently welcomed writers and illustrators from the 2026 Latinx Storytellers Conference to our New York headquarters for an exclusive Lunch & Learn offering an inside look at the people, decisions, and collaboration behind that journey. Presented by the Latinx Kidlit Book Festival, the annual Latinx Storytellers Conference brings together Latinx writers, illustrators, agents, editors, and publishing professionals with a focus on community and belonging, craft and professional development, and industry access and networking. That last piece—access—was at the heart of our time together. HBG colleagues took attendees behind the scenes of the publishing process, sharing how manuscripts are discovered and acquired; how editorial, design, and production teams work together to shape a book; how authors collaborate with their imprint teams; how marketing and publicity build audiences; and how sales and distribution ultimately help connect a book with readers. But some of the most valuable moments came from the conversation itself: storytellers asking questions, publishing professionals sharing what they’ve learned, and emerging creators gaining greater insight into an industry they are working to become part of. For HBG, this is also part of a continuing relationship. After supporting the Latinx Storytellers Conference in previous years, we were proud to welcome its community into our offices and continue investing in an organization working to create meaningful pathways for Latinx voices in publishing. Our mission is to make it easy for everyone to discover new worlds of ideas, learning, entertainment, and opportunity. Fulfilling that mission also means helping ensure that the people creating those worlds have opportunities to understand our industry, build relationships within it, and see a place for themselves in its future. Thank you to the Latinx Storytellers Conference, Latinx KidLit Book Festival, the writers and illustrators who joined us, and our HBG colleagues who opened the doors and shared their expertise. The next great story can come from anywhere. Our industry is stronger when more storytellers have the opportunity to bring theirs to readers. 📚 #LatinxStorytellersConference #LatinxKidLitBookFestival #HachetteBookGroup #ChangingTheStory #Publishing #LatinxCreators #Writers #Illustrators #DiversityInPublishing

Da Capo to Publish Jennifer Finch’s Memoir, SHOOTING UP AND MAKING OUT Da Capo, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing, will publish SHOOTING UP AND MAKING OUT: A Memoir of My Life in LA and L7 by Jennifer Finch with Jeff Alulis on January 19, 2027. Completed just before Finch’s death on July 18, 2026, the memoir tells the extraordinary story of the groundbreaking L7 bassist, photographer, recovering addict, activist, and beloved pillar of Los Angeles’ creative community—in her own words. From discovering LA’s hardcore punk scene at twelve and playing in an early band with Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland to experiencing L7’s rise amid the grunge phenomenon, Finch lived at the center of a transformative era in music. Her story extends far beyond the stage, chronicling addiction and sobriety, friendship and devastating loss, photography, advocacy, creativity, and ultimately, reinvention. “Da Capo is honored to have a part in Jennifer Finch’s legacy with the publication of Shooting Up and Making Out,” said Ben Schafer, Executive Editor, Da Capo. He describes the memoir as “as real as it gets, suffused with hard-earned insight into the human condition, and shot through with tender compassion.” Co-writer Jeff Alulis worked alongside Finch for two years to ensure the book reflected exactly how she wanted her story told. “I’m heartbroken that she won’t get to see it published, but I’m thrilled to share her life and legacy with the world.” Hard-hitting, funny, profane, and wise, SHOOTING UP AND MAKING OUT is Jennifer Finch’s story as she lived, remembered, and intended it to be told. Literacy can open a world of possibility. 📚✨ On International Literacy Day, we’re reminded that helping children become readers begins with something simple: giving them the opportunity, encouragement, and time to read. Reading with a child for just 10 minutes a day can kick-start a life-changing habit—building literacy skills while nurturing the curiosity, confidence, and joy that can turn reading into a lifelong practice. That belief is at the heart of Raising Readers, our global movement to help more children discover the joy of reading and make reading for enjoyment part of their everyday lives. ➡️ Take the pledge to help raise a reader at joinraisingreaders.com. Reading is Golden. 💛📖
