Featured in Metropolis Magazine, IA's new Seattle studio serves as a proving ground for circular and regenerative design strategies—creating a workplace designed to evolve rather than expire. Guided by IA's Harmonic Principles framework, the project reflects IA's commitment to sustainability, wellbeing, flexibility, and community, bringing these values together in a workplace designed to adapt alongside the people who use it. Inspired by the urban and natural rhythms of a city boulevard, the studio is organized around a block-long internal "street" where circulation becomes community. More than a pathway, the Boulevard serves as the social heart of the studio, connecting workspaces, wellness amenities, project rooms, a Genius Lab, and collaboration hubs into one cohesive experience. Designed for the global aircraft lessor’s U.S. headquarters, the workplace draws on the elegance, precision, and momentum of flight to create an experience that feels both dynamic and refined. Fluid, aerodynamic forms flow throughout the workplace, while continuous lighting elements sweep across walls and ceilings like contrails tracing the sky. Located on the ground floor of a former 1920's printing facility (a move from the top floor) at the edge of the Financial District and Jackson Square, the space embraces San Francisco's energy, diversity, and creative culture while opening our design process to the community around it. What happens when a 20th-century bank becomes a Western apparel outpost, a department store becomes an experiential entertainment center, or an abandoned railway bridge finds new life as a hospitality destination? Adaptive reuse is often considered a key strategy in the pursuit of sustainability, and for good reason. Reusing existing structures can significantly reduce embodied carbon while extending the life of valuable building stock. But it also creates opportunities for some of the most compelling and unexpected design outcomes.
