Earlier this month, J/PR hosted a special evening at Electric Cinema for an exclusive preview screening of Fred’s Ultimate Hotels, featuring The Royal Madikwe in South Africa. The screening was followed by an insightful Q&A, hosted by journalist and broadcaster Annabel Heseltine with the lodge’s owner, Dr Chai Patel, bringing together VIP UK media, industry partners, and friends and family of the lodge. A particular highlight was hearing Dr Chai share his personal insights into the history of the reserve, the lodge’s conservation efforts and the incredible people who work behind the scenes to preserve this remarkable part of South Africa. J/PR just released our 2026 Mid-Year Trend Report. As we pass the midpoint of the year, our team continues to closely monitor the fast-evolving travel, hospitality and lifestyle landscape. We are at a cultural pivot point. Exhausted by the always-on digital hustle, consumers are actively craving genuine connection and restoration. From our findings, here is a snapshot of the macro-trends shaping the industry today: Over-Optimization Backlash: Wellness is shifting from biometric measurement to catharsis (think cortisol-conscious retreats and analog recovery rituals). Culinary & Countryside Immersion: Travelers want hands-on, locally-led culinary experiences — private tastings, cooking classes, agritourism stays. "Hushpitality" & Deep Luxury: Quiet, privacy-first, and sound-managed stays where the hotel itself is the destination. The Shift to "Sight-Doing": 76% of travelers are prioritizing the skills they gain on a trip (hands-on workshops, cultural co-creation) over passive sightseeing. We enjoyed a wonderful London summer evening in The Goring garden last Thursday as we celebrated the launch of Cham'Pong Summer. In partnership with Champagne Bollinger, The Goring transformed its beautiful garden into the ultimate setting for a one-of-a-kind Cham'Pong tournament, complete with a wonderfully witty Goring twist courtesy of umpire Josh Berry. VIP players and familiar faces took to the table, while guests enjoyed Ping Pong cocktails, Pimms, a strawberries and cream hut, a summer BBQ, traditional Jaques of London garden games, and a live band that kept the celebrations going well into the evening.
