Through family-centered care in our children’s hospitals and clinics in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida, as well as world-changing research, education and advocacy, Nemours fulfills the promise of a healthier tomorrow for all children — even those who may never enter our doors. Nemours began more than 80 years ago with the vision of Alfred I. duPont to improve the lives of children and to do whatever it takes to prevent and treat even the most disabling childhood conditions. Today, through our children’s hospitals and health system, we directly care for 250,000 children annually in Delaware Valley and Florida, including families who travel from across the country and world to see our specialists — treating every child as we would our own. We also reach beyond the walls of our hospitals and clinics to be a voice for children on a national and international level, and to lead the way in prevention, intervention, education, and research. Nemours is growing to better serve the children and families in our care. We have 1.1 million square feet of space currently devoted to providing children’s healthcare or under construction, all designed with significant input and advice from our patients and families.

Turning the tide for early readers is at the heart of our mission. Through our Reading BrightStart! curriculum 📖, we’re seeing incredible progress in helping students reach the literacy milestones they need to succeed. CEO Dr. R. Lawrence Moss, MD, FACS, FAAP joined the team at Webster Elementary yesterday to celebrate LiteracyWeek Florida and see these young learners in action!
Yesterday, we had the privilege of visiting Webster Elementary School in St. Augustine, Florida as a group of Pre-K students engaged with our Nemours Children’s Reading BrightStart! curriculum, which has been shown to help 2/3 of struggling readers reach grade level. It was so rewarding to see lightbulbs going off as the children saw letters from their names and recognized compound words. Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! was the perfect time to see the impact of strong partnerships on supporting early readers. A heartfelt thank you to Webster Elementary and Investing in Kids (INK!) St. Johns for welcoming us into your classroom, and to Kate Burke Blackburn, Jamie Williams, Lisa Blume, and Allison Gertel-Rosenberg from the Reading BrightStart! team for expanding this excellent program. #FLCelebratesLiteracy #KindergartenReadiness
