A large heat dome from Tuesday, June 30, to Sunday, July 5, will bring extreme temperatures to New York this week and drive up consumer demand on the electric system. The NYISO may issue grid alerts if energy reserve margins drop below specified levels. Read the Press Release: https://lnkd.in/eGFuBSVE

As New York’s fossil fleet units age, the likelihood of forced outages and more frequent maintenance periods increases, reducing the certainty that these essential generators can be counted on during periods of system stress. NYISO President and CEO Rich Dewey recently joined National Grid New York President Sally Librera, New York Power Authority President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll, and Sean Ewart, Deputy Secretary for Energy at the Office of the New York State Governor to celebrate the energization of the Smart Path Connect project. Stretching from the North Country to New York's Mohawk Valley, Smart Path Connect will help relieve transmission congestion, improve the deliverability of clean energy, and ensure power can flow efficiently from where it’s generated to where it’s needed most. New York’s grid is being reshaped by the convergence of technological advancements, evolving public policy, and changing patterns of supply and demand. In addition to the fundamental need to build new generation to meet growing demand, it's vital for system reliability to invest in transmission infrastructure. This International Women in Engineering Day (#INWED26), we celebrate Women in NYISO (WIN) for fostering enrichment, professional development, and collaboration among our female engineers—and those who support them in powering New York. We welcome new WIN Board Chair Katherine Zoellmer (front center), and Executive Sponsor Juliann Madara, CPA, CFE (back, center right) along with new Board members Juliana Day, Mary Kurtzner, Mridula Saravanan, Shannon Mitchell, and Rowena Langdon, MBA. We also recognize the rest of the WIN volunteer Board for its leadership and dedication in bringing valuable resources and programming to employees.

NYISO’s grid alert system keeps New Yorkers informed when operating reserves on the bulk power system drop below required levels. The color-coded system provides real‑time updates about grid conditions and when to reduce power consumption if safe to do so. Looking ahead to this summer, reliability margins remain thin and challenges persist, making timely public awareness essential. Stay informed: https://lnkd.in/eptQkAQf

We’re proud of the 40 People Who Power New York and their friends and family who marched in this year’s Capital Pride parade! Thanks to our LGBTQ+ employee resource group chaired by Brian Sprague and Jenna Priore, for leading the way. At NYISO, we celebrate the strength that comes from working, learning, and growing together. Respecting and embracing our differences is part of our core values. 🌈

POWER TREND: The grid relies on a diverse mix of power resources - a fact reflected in the chart below from our Power Trends 2026 report. There is no single resource that can deliver affordability, reliability, and emissions reductions on its own. With an all-of-the-above strategy, each resource plays a distinct, complementary role in delivering power reliably. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gvr_Ajp #GridFactFriday
