An AI agent filled the cart and took itself to checkout. Then PayPal stopped it and asked for human approval. Debbie O'Brien and Eddie Jaoude ran it live. Here is what happened. 1. Debbie spoke to an agent. 2. The agent compared products, found the right sizes, added to the cart, and opened the checkout on its own machine. 3. At the payment step the agent stopped. 4. PayPal pushes the request to Debbie's phone. She approves it. No card details typed anywhere. That is the part that makes agentic commerce safe to actually use. Here is a teaser, full YouTube video link below 👇

We are excited to be working with key industry leaders to shape the future of payments as an inaugural member of the newly formed UCP Payments Tech Council. PayPal has been powering payments for 25+ years, across cards, bank transfers, wallets, stablecoin (PYUSD), and now agentic commerce — spanning 200+ markets, 100+ currencies, and over 400 million consumer and merchant accounts. We're deeply committed to open, interoperable infrastructure and believe vendor-agnostic architecture is essential to a healthy, competitive digital commerce ecosystem. As agentic commerce takes shape, we're proud to bring our experience to help define the standards it will run on. This is only the beginning, and we can't wait for what comes next. PayPal Sandbox: $5,000 Of Fake Money In 60 Seconds PayPal's sandbox hands every developer a fake buyer and a fake seller (merchant), each preloaded with USD 5,000. Nobody tells you the balance is editable, so you can set it to any number you need to test. Full flow: 1. Developer dashboard, toggle top left set to Sandbox. 2. Left nav, Testing Tools, then Sandbox Accounts . 3. Create account. Personal is your buyer, Business is your merchant. 4. Set Country to the market you are actually building for. 5. Make one of each. A seller with nobody to buy from tests nothing. 6. Find your row, click the three dots under Settings, then View/Edit account. 7. Login Info holds the email and password. Click the eye to reveal it. 8. Log in to the PayPal Sandbox. Your Client ID and secret come from the Business account, under REST API apps, then Create App. The Personal account has no such section, which is what trips most people up.
