Is your utility still relying on Ambient Adjusted Ratings (AARs)? This week at the GET SET Workshop in Charlotte, NC 📍, Pitch co-founder Zach Adams will break down the hidden risks of AARs and why weather-based Dynamic Line Ratings give planners and operators stronger situational awareness and more confident, data-backed decision-making. 📅 May 13–15 📍 Charlotte, NC As grid conditions become more dynamic, static assumptions can create operational blind spots. Better visibility means better decisions. Be sure to catch Zach’s session and stop by the Pitch booth at the vendor fair to learn more.

About us
Pitch develops and deploys power line components, such as line sensors and bird flight diverters, utilizing its custom drone platform, Astria, to ensure safe and efficient installations on energized lines. Our WireWeather software tool enables utilities to push more energy through existing lines, predict faults, and manage wildfire risk.

The modern grid is being pushed to its limits. Load growth, electrification, and wildfire risk are forcing utilities to operate infrastructure more precisely than ever before. But many monitoring systems still rely on regional weather models that may be miles away from the actual line. And when conditions vary dramatically across terrain, that data may not reflect what’s happening on the conductor. Localized weather intelligence changes this. By measuring actual conditions directly on infrastructure, utilities gain the visibility needed to safely optimize capacity and reduce risk. At Pitch Aeronautics, we believe the future of grid operations will be weather driven and infrastructure connected. What role do you think localized weather data will play in the next generation of grid operations? #GridModernization #DynamicLineRating #UtilityInnovation #SmartGrid #EnergyInfrastructure

As we move through the energy transition, the “silent bottleneck” of our power grid has become the #1 obstacle. The challenge is no longer just building new low cost generation. It is finding available transmission capacity to connect it. When the grid appears “full,” the default solution is to plan and build new lines. But unlocking capacity on the infrastructure already in the ground can help relieve that pressure today while longer term expansion continues. The Reality Today: 📊 The Queue: Nearly 2,300 GW of generation and storage is now sitting in U.S. interconnection queues, roughly twice the capacity of the existing grid. Much of it is waiting on transmission availability, not technology readiness. ⌛ The Wait: Projects entering service today often spend around five years or more in the queue, roughly doubling over the past decade as transmission constraints and upgrade requirements have grown. 📉 The Waste: In California alone, roughly 3–4 million MWh of low cost energy is curtailed each year because the grid runs out of transmission headroom. This is capacity we have already built but cannot fully use. The alternative? Free up capacity on existing lines so fewer projects have to wait on new transmission buildout. Our power flow simulation tool shows how Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) can unlock 20–40% more capacity on existing lines by using real time weather conditions instead of static assumptions, helping move more power today while new infrastructure is planned. We don’t just need a bigger grid. We need to fully utilize the one we already have. Try our simulation tool. Did you see anything that stood out to you? Engineering internships usually don't involve much design or flying. Not this one. This is what it looks like when drones move beyond inspection and start doing real robotic work in the field. We’re looking for undergraduate interns in electrical and mechanical engineering to help build our next generation robotic drone for powerline work! You’ll work directly on designing, building, testing, breaking, and redesigning things that have fly. You'll try things no one has ever attempted. If you want a summer where you actually wrestle with hard problems and see how engineering performs outside the lab—this is it. 🌎 This Earth Day, let’s make the grid safer for wildlife. As spring bird migrations reach their peak, millions of birds are navigating across landscapes filled with power lines, many of which are nearly invisible in flight. At Pitch Aeronautics, we’re helping utilities reduce these risks with smarter solutions. FeatherFender bird diverters are designed with bird physiology in mind, making power lines more visible so birds can react in time and avoid deadly collisions. Small changes in infrastructure can have a big impact on conservation. Learn why collisions happen—and how diverters can help prevent them: https://lnkd.in/gtV_F3x9

"Wait... it's all in one unit?" Yes. It is. WireWarrior is fully self-contained. Sensing, power storage, power generation, and communications in a single enclosure. No separate solar panels. No external battery boxes. No base station for comms. No tying into utility power. No field wiring connecting subsystems together at height. Why does that matter? Competing systems can require cranes, specialized bucket trucks, and crews assembling multiple components on the tower. Beyond installation, utilities are left to design, source, and integrate separate communications, power, and sensing subsystems and manage multiple vendor relationships when something fails. WireWarrior eliminates that burden: ✔ One unit to install, not five ✔ No integration engineering required ✔ No external power connection needed ✔ One vendor, one warranty ✔ Lower installed cost per location ✔ Reduced lifecycle maintenance ✔ Drone-deployable. No bucket truck required. https://lnkd.in/gWY32Zx9 #GridMonitoring #DynamicLineRating #UtilityInnovation #PowerEngineering #SmartGrid #EnergyInfrastructure

National and regional weather forecasts weren’t built with utilities in mind—and it shows. The animation below highlights the gap. Global forecast models rely on large grid cells, and while the High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model improves resolution, it’s still too coarse for complex terrain or individual spans. The result? A lack of spatial detail and statistical insight into how weather actually behaves across your system. Pitch takes a different approach. Our machine learning model is trained on your utility’s terrain and infrastructure, blending regional forecasts with real-world data from fielded weather stations. The outcome is a high-resolution, statistically driven forecast built specifically for utilities. Curious what better weather intelligence can do for grid performance?
