🔐 𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁: 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 On 17 September, researchers, companies and other cybersecurity stakeholders met in Velké Pavlovice for the 𝘀𝗶𝘅𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 CHESS Cyber-Security Excellence Hub 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁, organised by Brno University of Technology. The event was an opportunity to look back at what CHESS has achieved and to discuss how the cooperation developed within the project can continue. Participants shared project results, discussed new funding opportunities and future European projects, and explored possibilities for new partnerships and consortia. 🤝 With team members from the new Cybersecurity Certification and Assessment Tools (CCAT), QARC and SECURE-NET: Enhancing Cross-Sectoral Collaboration in Cybersecurity projects also joining the discussions, the event highlighted how experience and partnerships developed through CHESS are already feeding into new activities. Four years of collaboration have created strong links between academia, industry and the public sector in cybersecurity. The discussions in Velké Pavlovice showed how these connections can support further cooperation and new joint projects beyond CHESS. #Cybersecurity #CHESS #ResearchCollaboration #EuropeanProjects

🔍 New publication from our CUSEC colleagues! We are pleased to share that our team members Michal Rampášek and Matúš Mesarčík have published a new article titled “Rethinking Cybersecurity Research Governance: Lessons from the Act on Digital Services.” 💡 The paper explores the evolving EU regulatory landscape for cybersecurity research, particularly how researchers fit within frameworks like the Digital Services Act (DSA), Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), and NIS2 Directive. Despite progress, EU law still lacks a clear and coherent system that properly defines, safeguards, and empowers those engaging in cybersecurity research, especially outside traditional institutions. 📌 The authors highlight: - Legal ambiguity around the status of cybersecurity researchers - Challenges linked to vetting requirements and access to platform data under the DSA - Differences between systemic risk research and adversarial cybersecurity testing - The potential of more flexible tools, such as coordinated vulnerability disclosure and bug bounty schemes, especially under the CRA 🔐 Their conclusion? Effective cybersecurity research governance must reach beyond the DSA model, ensuring strong security and a safe environment for those who help uncover vulnerabilities. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/emgQytNp 👏 Congratulations to our colleagues on this important contribution to the discussion around responsible and future-proof cybersecurity policy! #CUSEC #cybersecurity #NIS2 #DSA #CRA

CHESS Cyber-Security Excellence Hub #event Tartu Brokerage Event CA5: Post-Quantum Cryptography (November 11, 2025) See more at: https://lnkd.in/dX5ZjuNw ---- Quantum computers exploit quantum mechanical phenomena to solve complex mathematical problems that are beyond the reach of conventional computers. The dynamic development and recent advances in quantum computing could jeopardise the security of traditional cryptographic methods and seriously compromise the confidentiality and integrity of digital communications. The goal of Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) is to develop cryptographic systems that are secure against both quantum and non-quantum computers, and can interoperate with existing communication protocols and networks. The first instances of quantum computers already exist, and it is expected that a quantum computer capable of running the Shor algorithm will be constructed in the near future. In that case, most current asymmetric algorithms for encryption and authentication would be completely insecure. For the long-term security of Digital Europe, progress must be made in developing quantum-safe technologies, such as PQC, that are secure, low-cost, and interoperable with existing systems. --------------------------- Masaryk University, University of Tartu, University of Tartu Institute of Computer Science, TalTech Centre for Digital Forensics and Cyber Security, TalTech Department of Software Science, Brno University of Technology, Cybernetica, Guardtime, Red Hat, Riigi Infosüsteemi Amet // Estonian Information System Authority (NCSC-EE), Národní úřad pro kybernetickou a informační bezpečnost, ITL Estonia

From September 14-17, ethical hackers gathered in Linz for the finals of the Austria Cyber Security Challenge 2026 🏆 ! The ACSC takes place once a year and is organized by CyberSecurityAustria CSA and the Cybersecurity Center TU Wien. The event brought together the best participants from the qualification rounds in a bid to solve #CTF challenges. Participants competed in two age groups and an open category: ages 14 to 20 (Juniors), ages 21 to 25 (Seniors), and an open class for anyone interested in ethical hacking, regardless of age or education. This year, teams competed in an attack-and-defense challenge, in which they had to find and fix a set of security weaknesses in their systems while simultaneously attempting to exploit weaknesses in other teams’ systems. Success depended not only on each participant’s technical expertise but also on effective group organization and teamwork, as well as on the ability to adapt quickly and perform under pressure. Other highlights included a Live Capture-the-Flag contest and a hardware challenge from Siemens. “ACSC is the main initiative in Austria to foster young talents in cybersecurity. Participants acquire and develop skills that are immediately applicable in the real world, contributing to shortening the cybersecurity skills gap and improving the overall security of our digital society," says Marco Squarcina, who is part of the organizing team and assistant professor at TU Wien Informatics. We congratulate the winners of the #ACSC2026: #Juniors: Joachim Eder, Tim Pichler, Max Sitter, Konrad Fidler, Simon Rechberger, Alexander Sauberer, Tobias Kendlbacher. #Seniors: Christoph Tantscher, Katia Eder, Benjamin Oberdorfer, Maximilian Felix Richmond, Wiltschko, Nikolaus Haider, Darius-Cristian Pavelescu, Jannik S. #OpenClass: Markus Müllner, Arthur Deierlein, Jonas Heschl, Maybrit Schröder, Dominik Apel.
