Mimic Robotics, a Zurich-based spin-off from ETH Zurich’s Soft Robotics Lab, is emerging as one of Europe’s most promising deep-tech startups in dexterous robotics and AI-driven automation. Founded in 2024, the company develops humanoid robotic hands powered by imitation-learning models that enable machines to replicate complex human motions with precision. Its “physical AI” platform combines advanced mechatronics with large-scale motion-capture data to train manipulators that can perform tasks traditionally reserved for skilled human workers. While its immediate focus is industrial automation, Mimic’s technology has clear dual-use potential for defense logistics, maintenance, and supply-chain resilience—key dimensions of European strategic autonomy. By offering a domestically developed alternative to foreign robotics, it strengthens Europe’s control over automation infrastructure at a time when critical manufacturing remains exposed to global dependencies. With its roots in ETH’s scientific ecosystem and support from Swiss and European venture funds, Mimic exemplifies how academic R&D can translate into strategic capability. The firm’s next challenge lies in scaling production, achieving interoperability with NATO standards, and securing European supply chains for components—steps that would elevate it from an emerging innovation to a cornerstone of Europe’s sovereign robotics and AI base. #DefenceFinanceMonitor #MimicRobotics #ETHZurich #Switzerland #AI #Robotics #AutonomousSystems #PhysicalAI #MachineLearning #EuropeanDefence #StrategicAutonomy #NATO #DualUse #Manufacturing #Innovation #SupplyChain #SoftRobotics #DefenseIndustry #C4ISR #AIinDefense https://lnkd.in/divf_55K

This is wild. Humanoid robots are entering a new era. 🤖 No human could stand back up that quickly and robotics are just getting started... 🧐 A humanoid robot in a Shenzhen lab stands back up with astonishing speed after being pushed, moving with precision that feels closer to human than machine. Developed at the ACT Lab of SUSTech, the platform uses advanced actuation and control systems to recover balance faster than the average person could. This experiment highlights the level of engineering detail that researchers are now achieving in robotic locomotion. What are your thoughts on this? 🤔💬 Credit: ACT Lab, SUSTech #ai #creativity #futurism #technology #innovation #artificialintelligence #personaldevelopment #whatinspiresme

🤖 A Tale of Two Most of you have probably seen the recent posts about the impressive Unitree Robotics robot and yes, it truly is remarkable. Here’s an interesting perspective: nearly a decade ago, similar humanoid research platforms were already being developed in leading labs around the world. Take TORO, developed by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR); a research platform showcasing precision engineering, advanced control theory, and academic excellence. It reflects deep scientific rigor and methodical innovation. Now consider Unitree H1; agile, lightweight, fast, and commercially available. Running at 3.3 m/s with 360 N·m torque joints, it demonstrates how quickly humanoid robotics has advanced toward real-world applications. The contrast illustrates different goals: TORO → research-focused, advancing scientific knowledge. Unitree H1 → engineering-focused, enabling practical deployment. This isn’t about which is “better”; it’s about momentum. Innovation now moves at lightning speed, and the challenge lies in turning research excellence into market-ready products, not perfecting prototypes. 💬 Message to Startups: Innovation isn’t just about invention; it’s about execution. 💡5% inspiration, 95% execution⚡ #Innovation #Technology #Research #Engineering #Automation #HumanoidRobotics #Science #Future #DigitalTransformation

Where innovation takes physical form. At AI Insiders × Swissnex: Robotics & Automation, intelligence leaves the lab and steps into the real world, from humanoids that learn in simulation to fleets mapping the planet in real time. The evening opens with Franziska Bossart, Head of Amazon’s $1B Industrial Innovation Fund, revealing how Amazon backs the frontier of AI and robotics, and why this moment matters more than ever. Then the conversation widens with Lu Zhang, John Robins, Antonio Paolillo, and Benjamin Bolte exploring how intelligence becomes physical, how machines collaborate, and how design, capital, and research intersect to shape the next industrial era. As the night unfolds, builders take the stage, drones that scale bridges, robots that wire rebar, vision systems that think, and AI infrastructure that powers it all. If you already hold access, this is the room you want to be in. If not, stay close. 📍 October 30 — San Francisco ⚡️Powered by Marvelous and Swissnex in San Francisco
