The Saami Brothers are custodians of a musical lineage passed down entirely by ear, from teacher to student, generation to generation, across nearly eight centuries. And on October 28th they'll performing on the MozFest Music Stage 💫 Every performance is improvised, so this one will only happen once. This is what wilding sounds like. Join us 🌱

Still on the fence about MozFest? Here’s your sign to grab your badge. In less than two weeks, the people who are building better tech around the globe will meet in Barcelona at MozFest, as part of Open Tech Week. Three days of bold ideas, hands-on making, and the most generous community in tech. Fifteen years in, it’s still the room people tell their friends about afterwards. Don’t be the one hearing about it secondhand. 🌿 https://bit.ly/4yYwgIa

How do we make leaving complicit tech easier? On October 31, Tech for Palestine is running a one-day hackathon at the Canòdrom - Ateneu d'Innovació Digital i Democràtica, part of Mozilla Festival Barcelona, around that exact question. I'll be there building, and I want you there too: https://lnkd.in/eYF8WRiK Were spoiled for choice on where to ship code. Picking a host that's complicit in genocide is a choice. So this past weekend I moved everything off of Vercel. Red Mage now ships on Netlify, Reliquary (https://lnkd.in/ePSp5i93) included. Migrate Off Vercel, one of 90+ projects Tech for Palestine has incubated, is built for exactly this move: https://lnkd.in/ejGmsMfF Whenever I bring up leaving complicit tech, someone tells me it's "very tricky," or that it's like picking a football team. I get some of it. Much of the trickiness comes from the powers that be, and from needing to keep your job. But while we debate how tricky it is, Palestinians are being killed. I have the ability to act, so I will. There are a few ways to be part of the hackathon: - In Barcelona? Get a ticket. https://lnkd.in/eYF8WRiK. Student and refugee discounts available. - At $30, cost can be a barrier for people who really want to contribute, so Red Mage is sponsoring 5 tickets for builders in BCN. If cost is what's stopping you, DM me. - Can't put your name on it because of your job? Sponsor a builder (or many builders!) anonymously. DM me and we'll set it up. - For my network outside of Barcelona and Europe BOLO for online ways to participate in the hackathon. Pictured: Plaça Catalunya, venerating causes that matter to the people. One of the most inspiring things I've seen as of late. xoxo Matt Roberts Luciana Gutierrez C.

Incredible opportunity to grow your leadership skills at MozFest 💫
Going to Mozilla Festival? Or know someone who is? If yes, we’d love to offer you a space to pause, reflect and get tailored support. Spring's leadership coaches will be onsite to offer complimentary 45-minute coaching sessions in six languages. In a moment of shifting funding, shrinking civic space, and increasingly extractive technology, sustaining the work towards a better digital world face can feel like an uphill climb. That's why sometimes—just as rewilding allows natural systems to regenerate—leaders need space to step back, loosen unhelpful patterns and find a different way forward. Bring whatever is on your mind. A difficult decision. A transition. Funding uncertainty. Conflict. Burnout. A relationship that’s become complicated. Or simply the feeling that you need some space to think. Together with a coach, you can process what you’re carrying, look at a challenge from a fresh perspective, and leave with resources and practices you can put into action right away. You might bring questions about: 🌿 Cultivating resilience and preventing burnout 🌿 Leading through career or organizational transitions 🌿 Making strategic choices in a volatile funding landscape 🌿 Navigating conflict, power dynamics and collective care Our coaches have walked alongside thousands of changemakers across 100+ countries, including hundreds of digital rights actors. They deeply understand the terrain you’re navigating. Register individually or with your team: https://hubs.la/Q04BfGxN0

We don’t have to accept the tech ecosystem we’ve been given. Introducing The Wilders: a mini-doc that gives you a big look at how connection, community, and convening come to life at MozFest. Suzanne Pierre, Ph.D. founder of Critical Ecology Lab (Oakland), Issam Hijazi founder of UpScrolled (Amsterdam), and Mozilla Fellow Valentina A. Aguana (Barcelona) live in three different cities. The internet brought them together for one honest conversation about nature, privacy, and the future they’re each building. Watch the full conversation, and join us at #MozFest to keep it going. We've spent years talking about who owns our data, but what about who gets access to our minds? At MozFest 2026, we're applying that idea to the human mind. Our Main Stage panel treats mental privacy and cognitive liberty not as abstract rights, but as habitat, the conditions that let creativity and independent thought grow in ways no system can predict. Meet the Main Stage speakers. Marcello Ienca, Professor of Ethics of AI and Neuroscience, Technical University of Munich (TUM) Marta Peirano, Journalist & Author Alaa Abd El-Fattah Stephanie Dinkins, Creative Technologist Stephen Damianos, Executive Director, Neurorights Foundation Join us✨ Recinte Fabra i Coats, Barcelona | 🗓 October 28–30 https://bit.ly/4yDmF9m
